"Sounds like shit at low volumes" I call BS!

I think lots of amps even sound better at lower volumes. But then again I haven't had the pleasure of using an iso-cab either. :D

I don't think most amps sound like shit at bedroom volumes either, but some definitely sound better, up loud. What I don't believe is that it has anything to do with tubes, i think it has more to do with speakers...because i find the same is true with good solid state amps like Randall RG's, they too sound better up loud around band volumes. I'm sure it has to do with the speakers, the fizz and buzz smooths out at a certain decibel level and you get a much more pure guitar tone.

As far as tubes and low volume, I CLEARLY hear a difference between lame power tubes and new ones, at super low volumes. The amp still responds better and has better tone with the better tubes, even if they are not saturating at a high volume.

Ok I always hear this and I have to laugh..admit it, EVERY amp sounds the same at low volumes! I think that every amp shows you its true identity when you turn them up. VH4, SLO, vintage marshalls ALL sound OK at low volumes. None sound bad....they just sound better loud. What do you think?
Exactly.
