I’d love to start gigging again but after hours on call work makes it frustrating.

My dream was to be a studio musician. Just come in, play to whatever is on the table for the day and collect some cool gear. But then I had some weird nerve injury when I was In college that kept me from playing for a while. I kept up with all my theory courses and all that but by the time my neck was better I just never got back in to the regime of actually playing guitar multiple hours a day.

For a small town we have a thriving music scene though so I’m sure I’ll play out again someday. There is music on every street corner during the summer too.
I work with a few dudes that play so I keep adding guitars to my office to sneak in jams lol

Maybe you can get a couple nights a week where someone else covers the evenings. I ain't making a lot of side hustle money because it's hard to find regular part time work here.so I wind up doing odds and ends on the side so I can hit the guitar, write songs, rehearse, record, and gig more. You get work here and your boss thinks he owns your ass MUST WORK WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS is all over the job market. I'd rather eat dirt and bugs than give up that playing time. So it's a no-go right there for me. My kids are a little older but I was nuts and just didn't give a shit about anything for a long time. Probably not for the better, but that's what it was.

The Berkshires in the summer sounds pretty killer. I just can't pack a switchblade in the club there I suppose, lol. You need to get out there before life passes you by and you become some Arch Stanton spamming forums with the same clips. Sharpen your chops and pick those strings for extra bread on the weekends.

Unfortunately I can’t sing for shit. I’d love to take some lessons and at least get good enough to do some solo stuff. That way I can schedule around work and bedtimes and not put anyone else through it.
Writing lyrics and melodies comes easy to me but fuck if I can sing the notes in my head.

The achilles heel of many a guitar player. While you are hamstrung with work getting a vocal coach that can fit into your schedule would be a really good idea and would maximize your invested time. I was forced into singing because if I didn't then all I had was an instrumental group and instrumental groups don't gig much. Wasn't a lot of musical opportunities where I grew up and not that many musicians either. After about ten years I could finally stand the sound of my own voice. It's been onwards and upwards ever since and these days I am glad I had to do it. I'm not stuck working for other guys playing stuff I don't want to play. Vocals first, guitar second is the way to go IMO.
