I am currently running an M4 into gmajor then vht 2502 and then an egnater 1x12 (rebel extension cab). I really like the eggie 1x12 with the celestion 80 that came in it. The tone is clear and the highs are smooth. My only concern is I would like to have more of the thumping bass like you get with a 4x12...but without having to lug one of those huge things around. I am the only guitar player in my band and i need to have a big sound...so i am trying to figure a good setup. I was thinking maybe a 212 running in stereo or 2 1x12 cabs in stereo for a big sound. I'm not sure about how a stereo rig will sound in small to medium venues though? Any suggestions?

I'd either do a TM212 w/ either the following speakers:

1. CL80 / G12T75
2. G12K100 / V30
3. 2 G12K100s
4. Scumback M75s

Or do two Egnater 1x12s w/ G12K100s or two Scumback M75s

The G12K100s are the biggest sound single speaker you will find. Great great speaker!!! The Scumback M75s are big sounding, but a bit more vintage sounding vs the K100s. What kind of music do you play? That'd help me point you in the right direction. Secondly, what modules do you have?

Take aeroic's advise on the cones, he's the man when it comes to that. I will say that I've tried 3 or 4 different speakers in the 112x and the only one I was ever happy with was the original Elite 80. None of them ever sounded as beefy, smooth, or spacious as the Elite 80. I never tried a G12K100 though, but I've heard aeroic's before, and I agree with that recommendation as it's a speaker that by itself gives a nice big sound.

I've been through your exact situation - One 112x wasn't cutting it, so I bought another. This helped, but not as much so in stereo. Only when I ran them chained together in mono and placed them close to each other did it make a much beefier sound that I was happy with. Adding a second 112x and spreading them out wide in stereo will give a 'wider' sound in general, but will not give you much more in the way of more girth or low impact compared to a single cabinet. Don't even bother with a single 2x12 cab in stereo, it's a waste of time. But two 2x12s in stereo, each running mono, now that sonic beauty, although expensive.

Basically, you'll have to decide how much you want to spend, and whether or not you need a 'wider' sound or a 'beefier' sound.

Unless your sound guy is micing up both of your cabs, the PA is about 20' or more wide, the PA is running in full stereo, and most of the crowd is centered between the PA, it's a waste of time, and will actually cause phase issues which equate to many more dead spots onstage compared to mono.

Stereo is like gold hardware.. Pretty much pointless, other than added oohs & ahhs from the couple people in the crowd that could actually tell. :D

The band I play in does mainstream rock similar to shinedown or theory of a deadman. I usually play through KH1 for clean, ultraXL for rhythym, and xtc for leads... although I am looking to get some egnater modules to replace the kh1 and xtc. Thanks for all the great advice. I think stereo sounds like more trouble than anything else. I think I will go with either two eggie 1x12s or a tm212 and run in mono to get a beefier sound. I will have to try out one of those celestion k100s.

highly underrated single speaker that sounds beefy and friendly, AND handles 300 watts.

Eminence Delta Pro 12A

I am convinced now.

If you don't need stereo..just a big sounding 212 should be good enough.

I am the only guitarist in my band and I can't find a bigger sounding, punchier 212 than my Randall NTX 212.

I actually prefer two 1x12 cabs because it gives you more versatility than a single 2x12. You can use one on a small gig, two on a bigger gig.

Another option is you can put one facing forward behind you, and the 2nd blowing in sideways across the stage.

A fourth option is down on the floor infront of you, angled up like a vocal wedge.

Lotsa options!

I'm using the stock 100 in the renegade 1-12, with a scumback m75 in a junk ext cab-I'm finally happy..................for now of course

I hear ya on versatility but for me it is more to carry, more trips to the car. I got rid of my rack because I hate having one more thing to carry. Now I just have ther head, cab and pedalboard.

Eric, I thought the CL80/K-100(85) was the pair you liked. Did you find the 75 to be better now?
I bought the CL80/K-85 from you an like it a lot!

Hard to tell them apart. Which is your favorite?

Wow...I can definitely tell the differences between them all...some are similar..but definitely not that hard to tell apart.

Maybe I can hear the differences a lotmore...since I've tried soooo many speakers!! :)

I am listening on little cheap computer speakers. Everything sounds the same! LOL!

Ya,could hear lots of differences for sure, couldn't tell what one I liked the best as it sounds like some you could do an EQ tweak but they all sounded good!!!

Hmm, just found these clips, really interesting!

I liked the ET65 the best by far, the Scumback H75 and the Eminence's sounded awful to me, almost like they were 8's instead of 12's, really small sounding. The V30 and the Greenback sounded good too, as did M75.

Interesting since the H75/M75 pair was recommended to me by Jim at Scumback as the go to pair for hard rock guys.
Although I know Eric has proven the M75s work well as a pair so I might try them. To be fair Jim said he doesn't always feel the H75 is best on its own but shines mixed with something like the M75, even over two M75s.

I can see that about the H75, based on that clip it has a weird boxy kinda quality which would work when mixed with something else but not so well on its own. Of course there are plenty of other variables involved here, namely how the speaker was mic'ed, so I would not take this as a 100% accurate repro of what the speaker sounds like seeing as how there really is no such thing. That said though, my feelings on these clips seem to mirror my feelings about the speakers i've used. I tend to prefer the "M" magnets found on speakers like Greenbacks and G12-65's over the "H" magnets found on speakers like the G12-H30. The Vintage 30 being the exception.
