Just curious. I picked up a Mogami 3082 speaker cable and before hand I had a monster speaker cable, it was thick as hell, might have been used for car audio or something. I haven't had a change to swap it yet but do you guys notice a difference in sound in speaker cables like you do instrument cables?

i personally do... watch out tho you dont wana go too hifi cos that isnt a guitars job like w/ a stereo system.
some metals conduct different frequencies differently ...if i got a realy bright amp i can tame the hiend w/ one of my cables i know isnt so toppy ect ect....some of my cables produce better low mids...
its all a players personal attention to detail... the audience would never know tho lol

if its 2 feet long, there's probably no audible difference.. once it gets into longer lengths, it plays a larger role. Honestly they're pretty much all the same, just need one with good plugs and a well made wire and you're good to go!

Yeah I'm just curious because I do a lot of recording and was wondering what kind of difference I would get out of this cable vs the one I rigged up from some really heavy duty monster cable for I'm guessing car audio or something of the sort.

I personally have two speaker cables, and one of them as a backup and there is a huge difference between the two of them to my ears. Since my cabinet is run 16 ohms mono I only use one speaker cable at a time. The monster cable I have is significantly brighter than the other one that I use(which is shorter and thicker). the monster cable is about 15 foot long and thinner around. If I play a gig that I need more clarity I use the monster. If not, I use the other one to darken my tone.

There was just a thread on this and it was concluded that you guys are all full of shit.

 Play some guitar and dont worry about it! Any difference you "might" hear in a speaker cable, could easily be EQ'd on your amp and made to sound the same as another cable. If not, Id look at your amp as the culprit and not your speaker cable.

Were the preamp tube covers on or off while determining this?

I remember going thru a 15 minute phase in my life when I questioned every little piece of my rig and its effect on my overall tone........I was an Eric Johnson freak, and everything I read at the time suggested he was a nut when it came to every little detail of his stuff. Well, ive been there and back to reality. But to each his own. If you have time and money to burn on this type of thing....go for it. I just think sometimes your ears fool you into believing you didnt waste your hard earned cash.

In MY rig that I tour with I notice a Big difference in the two speaker cables. Not an Eric Johnson difference. A difference that other people can attest to, and in fact have. Maybe one of them is defective... I don't know, but the difference is real.

On. Why do you ask?
Take them off and you'll be amazed.

And always wear a red hoodie.......the green one sucks in too much tone.....

I don't notice much in speaker cables, but I can attest to the fact that when I re-wired inside all of my cabinets with Monster wire, it was like taking a blanket off the front of the cabinet. The difference in sound was/is HUGE! I was skeptical, but now I believe.

It's called "MONSTER XP" Compact High Performance Speaker Cable and claims:

Tighter, deeper bass
Greater Clarity
Better Imaging
Cleaner Highs

I can vouch for everything except the "Better Imaging." Not really sure what the heck that is...

I trust your opinion on your results with your cab. My 2 main cabs right now are 71 and 76 Marshalls and I just figure if it was good enough for all the classic bands that used those cabs....why change it? You know? All the guys I loved in the 70's and 80's didnt have all these options we have now and they seemed to pull out some pretty stellar tones. Again, maybe im gettin old, but thats my way of thinking nowadays.
