Just scored a Mesa Traditional slant cab, and I’m gonna put Greenbacks in the top row. The Mesa V30’s are definitely smoother than typical V30’s, but they’re still V30’s, and I prefer something else in the top of a slant. This will leave me two Mesa V30’s that I’m gonna throw in a Splawn straight cab. Gonna change it over to 8 ohms to match the Mesa. I’d like some suggestions for the other two spots. I’ll be playing a Mark IV, Triple Rec, and Monomyth Marshall through them mostly, and dig real heavy toans. G12-75’s mix cool with V30’s, but I hear Mesas don’t like they’re scooped nature. I hear Warehouse Speakers are really good. I hear K100’s hit like a sledgehammer, but are bland. What say you?

I'd roll with a G12 65 or the WGS version. That speaker loves any amp I've thrown at it..and it has more mids than the T75 by a longshot; unless we're talking about the early 1984-85 vented versions.

I love that speaker. I had my buddy’s old Marshall cab with those in it for a couple years, and that became one of my favorite speakers. Think it would mix well with V30’ s for some heavy AF tones?

I've tried it and I liked it better than the typical V30/T75 mix that everyone raves about. But, I moved back to not mixing them after a couple yrs. If I were to mix again I'd roll with the V30/65 combo again.

I was just checking out Warehouse ET-65 clips and they sound amazing. In fact, all of their speaker clips sound great. I may score a few ET-65’s.

I've had a 2x12 loaded with G12K100s for the last 8 years and it's sounded great with every amp I've owned. They do hit hard. I don't find them bland, seem neutral maybe if anything without any spikes :dunno: Been waiting on a F70 loaded Fryette FB 412 since November :doh:

Ive been wanting to load a cab with v30s on top and k100s on bottom, the paint on the walls can go.

I run a K100 2x12 sitting on top of a 412 loaded with an x pattern of Greenbacks/Heritage (EVH) and peel paint it does.

K85s or K100s in the bottom seem like the ideal mix with Greenbacks. No issue with Mark series amps, but not the best with Rectifiers.

I think I’m gonna do this combo, but in an X. I don’t dig V30’s all up in my face.

Funny you should mention both the G12 65's and old T75's;
I have both these speakers matched with Mesa V30's in two different 2x12 cabs;
Marshall 1966B (diagonal 2x12) 24" wide, '86 T75 + V30, and a Mesa 2x12 Vertical slant; top position: G12-65, bottom: Mesa V30.
Both cabs sound PHAT, without mud.
Also they can help with slightly balancing any stringent highs from amps.

3rd option would be the K100, but as you said yourself Beyond Black, while punchy and powerful, it does have a certain blandness to it.
Depending on which amp you want to use the most, you want to consider
-do I want my cab to almost add low-end to a thinner sounding (relative to...) amp?
-do I want crunchy mids, and/or add character, while still have a good low-end?

The K100's will add the least character, but will help the most in creating a big low-end foundation, that's not flubby.
G12-65's will add more character, still have a big low-end, but these typically want to see more signal, before their 'magic' appears.
For home/bedroom volumes, G12-65's may actually come across as too smooth.

I used to (and when it comes to the modern ones, still do) slag the T75's all the time, but after getting the Marshall 1966A with vented dustcap original T75's from '86, those became one of my favourite speakers. None of that shrill highs, scooped-mids BS.

Try the WGS Reaper 30's. I have 2 in my 4X12 and like them a lot. Seems like nothing is too scooped or too much. The HP version is a bit darker. I might mix 2 Reapers and 2 Retros...

K85 or K100. They Do hit like a sledge hammer. I would put them on the top of the Mesa. I mix K85/K100's with V30's and ALWAYS have good results

Hahaha :rock:

I just wanted to say I didn't mean to come off harsh. I was literally looking up this same thing today. What i was noticing is that for me, speakers that emphasized the lower mids seemed to let the highs shine through. I have a dark amp, so i think these would mix well with my 30s. If you think what sound you are looking for, that video and another he did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm0ejM4vMrk&t=865s
will start you in the right direction.

The g12m-65 is a different speaker, correct? Your favorite is the g12 65...?

The M65 is the recent cream back I think? The G12 65 is the speaker that Marshall started putting in cabs in the late 70s to replace the blackback, and continued into the JCM 800 line up till 83. I'm not sure if the 65 is a medium magnet or not...so maybe 'technically' the G12 65 is a G12M 65 based on the magnet it uses?
But it's my favorite all around speaker, every amp I've ever owned loves it.
