This solo comes on the radio and no one blinks or comments that they "haven't heard that song in a while." Somewhere down the road perhaps there will be another Guitar God that can write a solo that makes it on the radio, but for almost 40 years that solo gets played every day on the radio somewhere. Sounds fresh and exciting to me every time.

Absolutely. It's just a kick ass beautiful piece of guitar work.. tone, execution, technique combined to be masterful.

I grin to this day when it comes on as well, just as much as I did back then.

104.3 here in NY is good to play it at least once a day on its rotation. lol

Greatest guitar solo ever. Nothing before or after will even come close.

That solo and Hendrix are we started me playing guitar.

Was and still is incredible, I listened to that album and only that album everyday for 9 months.....still can't play it.

Every once in a while the radio stations will play Eruption then going into 'you really got me'
as many times I have heard it....I never turn the channel.
Best thing ever guitar wise.

Still my favorite tone to this day! that opening A chord has the tone for me!

And then all he does is follow it up with Spanish Fly on the next album.

Wasn't that perfect?

I remember thinking, after VHI, that he'd never top Eruption. Spanish Fly proved me wrong, and proved EVH wasn't a one trick pony.

I agree. I prefer Spanish Fly, as it shows how strong his picking technique is, not to mention his left hand strength. And, it's just beautiful.

I love Spanish Fly! I haven"t heard it on the airwaves in 30 years though.

That was just a magic time! It still sounds as great as when I first heard it. Never bore of the early VH!

It still makes my pulse race. The tone and playing on that record is unreal.

I remember that I had been playing guitar for a couple of years and I was a sophomore
in high school in '86 when I first heard it! I was already a Van Halen fan, but I didn't own
any of their records. I couldn't tell you why. Maybe because they were on the radio all day.
But I remember I was in art class and my friend gave me his walkman and said "Listen to this!"
I remember just being spellbound! I had never heard anything like it. I already knew that Eddie
was the man, but this just took it to another level!
Later that night after buying VH1 I was listening to Ain't talking' bout love.
There was just something about the intro to that song! I thought that was the coolest thing ever!
If I ever learned how to play that.....I would be a god!
An hour later I was like "It's an A minor chord and he's picking the notes!"
It sounded like some cool scale at first listen.
The thing I remember taking away from learning some of that stuff was
if there is an easier way to play it, that's probably the right way to play it.

(Free) Radio stations where I live play mostly bump-bump music, and/or country. There are a couple that will still fire up some old VH every once in a while, but usually it is the more "popular" '84 album stuff (which i dig as well). I subscribe, mostly to SXM, but either way, a sure fire way to get SHUSHED in my car is bumping ya gums when VH comes on...especially VH from the vinyl and cassette days.

But yes, i agree to everything above. Eruption set the bar for tone, style, technique etc for guitar players for the next 50 years ?? maybe longer ??

Good question! all i know is i have heard nothing that had that same effect on me
and a tone that impressed me that much since.
so i wont hear anything to top it in my lifetime, that is for sure!
