Are Awesome!!!

I went to carl Roa's house to hang out and I had the chance to listen to and compare some 4x12 cabs. I brought over my Old Marshall cab loaded with h30's and Carl Had a Marshall Cab loaded with v30's and greenies in an x pattern, A cornford Cab Loaded with V30's and a Splawn Cab. As of Now we aren't sure what speakers are loaded the Splawn cab but I will find out as soon as Carl gets a chance to open it up. The Splawn Cab was closed shut with screws that appear to have a Star key Head and we didn't have anything to open it up with LOL.

Anyway I've always known that My Cab was a Dog but I never knew just how much of a dog it was until I got to compare it with some other cabs. Let's just say that My cab sounded the worst out of all of them and it will be going away soon! It was no contest really ;)

In my humble opinion all of Carl's cabs sounded great but the Splawn sounded the best and Id love to have one!!

If I had to rate Cab's in Order it would be 1)Splawn 2)Cornford 3) Carl's x pattern cab 4) My cab thrown away in the garbage lol

Carl is gearing up to record a new Solo album and a NEw Magic Elf Album and I'm pretty sure that you will be hearing the Fortin/Splawn combo when he is finished

Ralph

They are good. I picked up a 2x12 and loaded it with a Governor and a Small Block and it sounded huge compared the 2x12 Recto cab I was using.

Great review, makes me think. I'm in cab hell right now trying to find that combo that works, sounds like you found it. Marshall with H30s just isn't working at all. Let us know what the speakers end up being. ps - That avatar is still friggin hysterical!

Wassup Brother !!

I have to say that the Splawn Cab is one of the best that I've heard. It had a killer bottom end to it and it was extremely warm sounding with zero Ice pick. Awesome sounding cab! Now I just need to know what speakers are in it!!!

My avatar cracks me up to LOL!! :)

They're awesome, miss mine. Very warm sounding.
I agree 100% Very warm but clear sounding!

What speakers did you have in yours?

Vlad has a Splawn 4x12, his is loaded with SB 25's, Celestion makes them for Splawn I believe.

I hate to say that Paige had a Splawn 4x12 a few years ago and it was terrible sounding to me. It was full of ice-pick and not smooth or warm at all. It's probably all about how much the speakers are worn in i guess. But it wasn't the first time that Eminence speakers sounded like crap to me.

It has a lot to do with the speakers loaded in it and the grill material IMHO. Id like to know what he had in his cab............and just for the record... There hasn't been a modern eminence speaker that Ive liked yet, so Im pretty sure I wouldn't have like his cab either.
Oh Yeah, The Huge metal fan picture is OUTSTANDING!!

Don't tell H about a splawn cab. He is going thru cab hell right now. ;)

Ralph... Was the Splawn cab a straight or slant cab???

Hey Ralph, how did you like the Cornford cab?

I liked it a lot. It Sounded Killer. It had more High end then the Splawn and it also had a totally different feel but that's more then likely because of the Speakers. The Splawn was easier to play on but Id be happy with either cab. My Cab sounded like Hammered Crap compared to the Cornford or Splawn. I can get rid of it fast enough lol

Haha!! :D

The Splawn cabs are outta the question for me, since i cant afford to buy a cab from the USA and have it shipped overseas.. But I can get the Cornford cab for a pretty good price from local stores here in the UK. I have been very interested in picking up a Cornford 4x12!

The Cornford cab was excellent and I can also tell you that the Engl Cabs were very good as well. Both are to expensive for me hear in the US but they should be ok for you in the UK.
To be honest with you I'm finding funny that these days most Mfg's are building better cabs then Marshall :D

Straight cab in White Tolex!! It is The bizzomb!!

I have been looking at getting a few "White/Black basketweave" Splawn 4x12 straight cabs... Hmmm

I'm thinking 6 Full stacks would look pretty darn cool

Cool stuff Ralph. It's interesting too because I don't believe Splawn uses finger joints. I'm fairly certain that they use a rabet joint which is a very simple joinery. So your experience proves that basic construction, as long as it's done right, can sound fantacular.

For the record, I think I saw a picture of one of the Splawn cabs in the oil finish (no tolex). And since it wasn't covered, you could see there were no finger joints.

Carry on.

Dave
