might be making a trade for a splawn nitro, unfortunatly i have no way of hearing one in person ,only through clips, and i have to admit to me they sound pretty damm good,i was hoping to get some feedback from owners and previous owners as to what they liked and disliked, any info is greatly appreciated, i like a heavier sound,...killswitch,love the tone, but just using that as a reference.

I loved the clips of the Nitro.
Did not like the Amp when I got it.
Just didnt work with me.
I would take your Engl over it anyday.
I have owned both the Fireball and the Nitro.
If you do Metal....
No comparrison.
Just my 2 cents on it.

Good luck on the trades.
Dan

thanks and nice clip of the rivera ,sounds way good

Maybe you should check out the ENGL Powerball?
That has a Crushing tone!

Or maybe a Framus Cobra?
I had one of them Bad boys too....
That was a METAL amp.
It was just too limited for what we play.

Thanks for checking out the video!
That Rivera just slays....
Too bad the audio didnt come out the way it was in the room.
It just has a HUGE sound to it.

The Powerball or the Cobra....thats what I would get if you dont like the Fireball.

You wont want the Cobra then. Really a dark sounding metal amp.
The clips I hear of the Dragon sound great!
Never heard one in person though.
Tone chasing is a long road. Good luck!

I played a new quickrod a few months ago. awesome amp. played thru a schecter and an OD808 and it was like killswitch in a box. badass mofo

I will the say that the repsonse and feel is very tight and dry. maybe too much for some people

I owned one for six months...played it at home and at gigs. VERY particular sound. Clean channel is pretty bad...it's very picky about guitars, pups and speakers...not versatile either. JMO

I hated the Powerball.
I wouldnt buy either of them amps again.....but if I was looking for something Metal...Yeah....might go for the Savage 120 in the ENGL line.
Next stop.....Mark III head....then I am DONE!

Some other amps you may want to try are Boogie Roadster, H&K Trilogy or Triamp, Boogie Mark Series, PV 6505, Diezel (though they're hard to find to try out). Sorry, I've never played a Splawn or heard one in person.
Between Adam and Joel from KSE, they used all these amps either live or in studio at some point.

I went thru 2, 1st one was kt77s. :aww: 1 month sold it, then i bought anotherkt88s  with loop knob in back, 1 month sold it, borrowed a splawn quickrod off splawner on rigtalk one practice, well half a practice the guys said :gethim: turn it off, back to splawner, then he sold it, then we got a new guitarist and he walks in with what?   another splawn quickrod...

I AM Officially NOT a Splawn Guy

nitro's a pretty mean sounding amp..that being said, tough to know if you're going to dig it based on clips..sucks not being able to get your hands on something you're considering buying....KSE does use them..they boost them with the OD808 I believe...I think some dealers offer a 'trial period'..at least they used to..not sure....would have to talk to the guys on here who deal in splawn stuff...

I'd like to have one because it's alot different from what I have now, but I'd have to sell my QR to fund it...and I like my QR too much to sell =D

Every time I turn on my Nitro I do this. :D

It's not for everyone, but it is a big, clear sound.

for me i wanted to dime the gain and break it so it goes around another half turn.......then id be there. However, scott is one of the nicest people on planet earth!

I had a mesa single recto and upgraded to a Splawn Nitro 2009 with KT88 used but in mint condition with the loop master mod.
This is the best upgrade I've ever done.
The splawn is tight and articulate. The gain isn't as compressed and grainy as the mesa but I always use an overdrive in front of my amps so with either the od808 or OCD, I get a very nice tone like killswitch engage
The leads on the nitro are godlike . Very clear. And the clean is very nice. Compressed and sweet.well I'm very happy with my purchase.
You can get a very good bed room tone with the loop master.
I think boosting the nitro is must. I'll try a mxr 10 band eq in the loop soon. It might do the same thing as an OD in front..

Those who didn't like the nitro should have put kt88 in it and use a clean boost in front..
I run it through a mesa roadking cab (2xv30 + 2xblack shadow) and i have an esp eclipse emg loaded and an esp mII with dimarzio x2n + tonezone

I had one

albeit I didn't have it very long, it was a pretty ridiculous amp

to be honest, not as high gain as you might expect. Kinda of smooth sounding, articulate, and very tight and dry. If you want a lot of gain, you'll definitely need to be boosting it.

LOUD LOUD LOUD, it's insane. The volume taper is crazy, it goes from silent, to barely audible, to ear piercing.

HUGE HUGE HUGE bass. The bassiest amp I've ever owned (didn't help that I played it through an Orange 2x12 though :D)

The gain reminded me of a 5150 for some reason.

That being said, I'd probably want to get a Quickrod. The nitro was a bit too bassy for me, and the mids were too low for me.

I second this. I own both of these amps and they kill for strait up metal.

The Powerball is a really simple amp to use, give yourself about 5 minutes with the EQ and you'll have a metal sound you like. The layout of that amp is just so easy to use really. The Pball is a BRUTAL amp, lots of saturation but yet still has a "clear" hi gain sound similar to a Diezel. It's not a super organic raw head, but it does still sound and feel like a tube amp, just with a boatload of gain. The bias was all messed up on my Powerball and I just had it rebiased with new tubes. Much warmer than before. The Pball is also very versatile and can do most sounds.

The Framus Cobra is not a dark amp, in my opinion anyway. The Cobra is the most Brutal, flame throwing amp I've ever owned or played on. It's meaner than the Powerball in my opinion. It's everything a Dual or Triple Rectifier should be as it shares some similar tonal qualities with a recto, but is super tight and more defined. The "notch" switch on the Cobra is where it's at as you can dial in two completely different hi gain sounds. Notch engaged delivers this super brutal scooped sound that would probably work great for recording, and with the notch off you get a low mid heavy, no fuzz, kick in the chest sound that cuts through like crazy. Clean channel is also really good in this amp, but like Mailman said, it's pretty hard to get something good out of it in between clean and over the top metal.

If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to choose one of the two to run over with my truck, I'd say I'd have to flatten the Bpall. The Cobra is badass.
