might be making a trade for a splawn nitro, unfortunatly i have no way of hearing one in person ,only through clips, and i have to admit to me they sound pretty damm good,i was hoping to get some feedback from owners and previous owners as to what they liked and disliked, any info is greatly appreciated, i like a heavier sound,...killswitch,love the tone, but just using that as a reference.

Splawns have a way of sounding different on clips as opposed to "in the room", just imo more so than some others. I did enjoy my Nitro when I had it. But, it didn't sound like any of the clips I listened to prior to purchasing it at least in one aspect I wasn't prepared for but I can't blame that for not coming through in clips.

I had one

albeit I didn't have it very long, it was a pretty ridiculous amp

to be honest, not as high gain as you might expect. Kinda of smooth sounding, articulate, and very tight and dry. If you want a lot of gain, you'll definitely need to be boosting it.

LOUD LOUD LOUD, it's insane. The volume taper is crazy, it goes from silent, to barely audible, to ear piercing.

HUGE HUGE HUGE bass. The bassiest amp I've ever owned (didn't help that I played it through an Orange 2x12 though :D)

The gain reminded me of a 5150 for some reason.

That being said, I'd probably want to get a Quickrod. The nitro was a bit too bassy for me, and the mids were too low for me.

Did your nitro have the loop master volume knob?
this is a very useful features introduced in 2009. I can play in my bedroom with the volume past 13:00 whille the loop is engaged and attenuated with the loop master knob. Preamp tubes are pushed hard so you get a thick and gainy tone at low volume. It helps alot on the volume taper. Without it, the volume taper is very bad itself..

I owned one, sold it with in a week 07. As posted above the volume taper was all or nothing and the top end had to much fizz for me.

I bought my Nitro based on playing it in person. I don't think that it sounds like the clips that I have heard. It sounds better in person, as far as I'm concerned. I've also only played the revised '09 version though, so take that as you will. The Nitro does everything that I have always been trying to get a Mesa to do.

What are the different revs of the Nitro? I'm also considering a trade for one.

Splawns are clean sounding amps. If your sloppy theres no where to hide. If you like crazy buzz saw gain, you wont like it. If you like pure tube tone, you will.

This.

I tried to like it when I had it. But knew within a day that it wasnt the tone I was looking for.
