Got it yesterday. As mentioned, I opted to take a Quick Rod that a buyer had to back out on that was 2/3 built. I couldn't be more happy with the cosmetics. It has a somewhat menacing look to it, in a very good way.

It sounds fantastic. LOVES the UK Greenbacks! Best of all, the loop volume works so well, I think I can part with my PS-2, and the need for an attenuator, and use the money towards another guitar. It sounds much better without it, as well.

My only complaint, (to each their own), is all chinese tubes, preamp and power. I already changed pre's to a mix of Tungsol, JJ, and Mullard, and liked the results. Next, I'd like to throw a quad ofJJ KT77's in!

This is the Nitro headshell, black piping, black faceplate, black chickenheads. It's sexy as hell!

Nice! Glad you ended top with the Splawn. You're gonna thrash your ass off.

Congrats Man!! I have the same one in the stealth look..

Dude, years ago when I had a Splawn Competition I replaced the EL-34s with KT-77s and was awesome!! Loved the low mids with that tube.

I prefer the KT88's in my Nitro and Promod but want to try some Kt77's in one or the other. Both of my Splawns are 2008's IIRC. It would be nice to have a loop volume. I don't play them if I have to be quiet. I love Scott's work, but they are the one of the only amps I own that just suck to play at a low volume. Even with lowering the volume in the loop. Killer amps!

Have fun!

Shit! You aren't far from me at all. I am a fellow Tamponian. Lol. I am in SW Pasco. county. Went to USF too.

Congrats.

You were on the hunt for a Competition for a long while right? Did you have one of those before or was it a QR? Either way, I think the QR is the way to go because it 'should' have slightly better resale value down the road. But honestly, I don't use the Splawn's clean channel much but you can get nice edge of breakup tone on there.

Amp looks deadly man! I wonder if that is the one Scott posted on Facebook before he shipped it to you? You gotta get some clips up of this bad boy. I think I also need to join the KT77 bandwagon.

Have fun

Scott has been putting Chinese tubes in his amps for a while now. The guys over on the Splawn boards are swearing by them. Scott must like them too. Stop over there and introduce yourself some time. But if I could build a Splawn from scratch - I'd go with the stealth look too but Z28 stripes are boss too.

I put JJ KT77s in the Quickrod I had and it absolutely smoked.

Mine IIRC came with Sino's. I did not like them either. I have JJ's in mine with a Tung-Sol in V1. That is a reoccurring pattern for me lately.

If you haven't tried a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS in the PI spot. I have been pleased with them lately there as well.

I had a Quick Rod back around '05. The only reason I sold it, was it was TOO LOUD! No loop volume back then, and to this day, it's still one of the loudest amps I've ever owned. Did NOT work in the apartment I was living in at the time.

I had a Competition about 3 years ago. It was a killer amp, and I stupidly sold it because it didn't get along with T75's in my Marshall cab, and wanted a Helios.

This amp kills! I've already registered over at the Splawn camp, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic...

I know you did a bias tutorial, and I biased the Competition I had with KT77's, does the 100 watt have (2) bias adjustments, (one for each pair), or still just (1) for all 4? I haven't dug inside it.

For pre's, I actually stuck with a JJ ECC803S in V1, Tungsol in V2, and JJ ECC83S's in V3 & 4. It sounds livelier and warmer. It was too bright with the Chinese. I can only imagine what KT77's will sound like! I just hope there's enough sweep to bias them up. There wasn't much adjustment in the Competition, and if you don't get just the right grade, you risk too hot, or way too cold.

Congrats man. Beautiful looking Quickrod. I for one really like the Chinese 12AX7B's Scott is using these days. I have no complaints at all with my Fully loaded 2018 QR. Enjoy that badboy!!!

It'll thrash, that's for sure. Perfect for it!

1 pot for all 4

Also, keep in mind that V2 is your Clean and OD input + OD gain stage 2.
V1 is only your Clean gain stage 2.
V3 is OD gain stage 3 and 4.

I saw the post and immediately thought "damn that was quick!" Those are nice headshells, looks like Rick Graham's Nitro. Sucks for the guy who ordered the amp originally but awesome for you.

I have a quad of jj kt77s I will let you have cheap. They are almost new, they came in my diezel VH2 and I took them out the day i got it.
I did buy the amp used though and the guy I got it from said he only used it to model it with his kemper then sold it to me. I believe him because the head was pristine and still smelled new.

Let me know if you want them

If I remember correctly the Competition you had was once mine. I think you got it from the guy I sold it to . I wish I would have kept it more than you LOL . Oh and cool new amp you've got there . Have you put any boost pedals in front of it yet ?

Yes, that Competition did belong to you, indeed.

I've tried a CM-2, GT-OD, and Zakk Wylde OD. The GT-OD wins! Got to really crank it last night, sounded fantastic.
