Started to get my brand new Pro Stock B+ sounding where I like it and wanted to see how others are running their Splawns for the following categories:

-Blues (SRV)
-Classic Rock (AC/DC, Zep)
-Rock (Kravitz, Black Crowes)
-Hard Rock (GNR, Crüe)
-Alice in Chains (Ha!)

Also, how are you running the Master, Solo, and Loop volumes? What about full power or half power?

Cheers!

Bumping this to oldie since no one answered.

Also, are you using a clean boost ever, and if so, what?

Thanks!

I can't speak on settings since Im not a Splawn user.... but as far as clean boosts in the loop for volume lift (for leads, etc)... Ive used the creative labs Mk 4.23 and lizard legs flying dragon.... dig them both!! Flying dragon is still on my board but both are equally great... it's just what I have had for couple years now so no need to change.

Clean boosts in front of amp just hits the whole tone stack harder.. adds a bit more gain, flavor... won't add really any volume. Fyi

I will take a look at my amp tonight and post some settings I use.

I am actually interested in folks settings as well.

Barely 24 hours into mine, but here's where I currently stand for my basic hard rock tone:

QR 2009 (3 button switch)
2x12 w/Celestion Lynchbacks

Controls (at clock positions)
Presence 9
Bass 10
Mid 12
Treble 13
Gain 12
Gear 2 OD1
Loop Master 12
Half power
Volume 11

So basically everything is at or about noon. Hard to get a bad sound out of it, which makes it really versatile.

Has it been determined if Splawn amps have pentode/triode switch, or does it simply cut 2 power tubes? Splawn manual says to halve the impedance when running half power, suggesting it is not pentode/triode, contrary to what Lynn Burke says.

I am pretty sure that is almost exactly how mine is set. I love Gear 2 OD 1. I keep the gain at about 11:00 and hit it with my '93 RAT and it is rock as fuck!

Your clip went from great to awesome when you hit it with the RAT pedal

Street Rod 2010 (3 button switch)
Stock Small Block

Controls (at clock positions)
Presence 1
Bass 1
Mid 1
Treble 1
Gain 4
Gear 1 OD2
Loop Master Wide Open
Full power
Volume 9

Lead master 11

I also run an OD808 in front as a boost ( gain : off tone: noon output: wide open)

I play 80's hard rock/metal. This is metal as PHUCK!

I also have a 2015 50w QR. I run it similar, but I back off the bass a bit because it's pretty BIG!
Run it through a 2x12 with M65 Creambacks.

I'm not sure what my settings are but I boost sometimes with a Maxon OD808 and it sounds fantastic.

Splawn QR 2013 B+

Controls (at clock positions)
Presence: 9
Bass: 2
Middle: 1.5
Treb: 1
Vol: 8
Gain: 3
Mode: G1
Loop Vol: 9
50W mode
Avatar 2x12 w/ vintage 30's

Settings I've been using for my last couple of VH tribute shows with Quickrod
Controls (at clock positions)
Presence: 5
Bass: 7
Middle: 5
Treb: 5
Vol: 8
Gain: 3
Gear 1 OD1
50W mode

Thanks for sharing, just diggin in to the QR.
It's a little harder to dial in than the Nitro. (which is freakin awesome BTW that the QR is harder to dial in)

I run everything at noon except my volumes. I use a Maxon od808 and a keeley red dirt for solos only. Mine is an older one but it so far has killed every other amp I've had. I love it

I see a lot of love for the Maxon OD808. I bought one and when I got it and engaged the foot switch, there was a slight delay in it turning on. My Keeley SD-1 is instant. It just bothered me, so I returned it for a refund. Never really tested it's potential. Maybe I had a dud?

Anyway, this awesome. I forgot to ask everyone to include the speakers used in their cabs, 'cause that makes a difference in the settings.

Keep 'em coming!

I am glad for this thread as I am booking a half a day in a local studio here in Vegas to profile the shit out of my Quick Rod for the Kemper. I will have to try some of y'alls settings!

plug in, close eyes, listen, turn knobs until the ear is pleased ;)

I have a book somewhere with my main settings on it for recording. Along with pedal settings, mic placement and speaker type. I'll try and dig it out.

I'm always changing mine around. Pretty much impossible to make it sound bad. Pretty much everything around noon, mids, treble and presence maybe 2 oclock. Lately I have been using 2nd or 3rd gear with the gain down pretty low. First gear I tend to run the gain around 2 oclock. I have been using Hardwire CM-2 for lead boost, also a Bogner Red into the clean channel for something totally different.

I pretty much always play through some AIC when I turn-on my QuickRod. "Man In the Box", "Rooster", "Would", "Bleed the Freak", and others. I generally run my mids at 11:00, and everything else at noon when I play the harder stuff. I may run Presence and Treble up to about 1:00 if I'm seeking that crisp edge. It must be noted that I play my QR through the Splawn slant 4x12 loaded with Small Blocks. Have had a lot of great boutique amps and the QR is as good as any. My Friedman Smallbox is getting most of the love right now, but I'm still in the honey moon phase (I expect to stay there for a long time).
