Stating the obvious-> Cabs matter...

I avoided the break in "issue" by buying mine used. The other guy broke in the speakers for me... No extra charge! LOL~!!!!

I wonder if you could just place the cab face down(for sound attenuation) and run a loop of music into the cab for a few hours to break the speakers in?

Are the speakers broken it yet? If they haven't been broken in yet they sound less than pleasing. Those Friedman cabs are stellar build quality. May be worth just swapping the speakers if the V30 doesn't work out for you. But give it some time to break in. V30's are pretty harsh at first.

That might be the case. I can hardly ever use the speakers on a decent volume: my bands almost always play through a PA w. monitors (so with a mic in front of my cab, you know the deal) and during rehearsals I play over whatever there is in the rehearsal room... Then again, there's not much motivation to drag around and use a cab (with just one awkward handle) which sounds less than stellar during rehearsals...

I think that for almost 900 euro's I expected to get something that sounded better straight away than this 2x12"V30 cab. But perhaps it's just me... I mean, an entire Friedman forum can't be wrong, can they? ;)

Well, after all.. it is "just" a 2x12 V30 cab... it's not a magic box, thats where your playing style comes in. Try it next to a Mesa 2x12 and tell me which one is more harsh then. Sounds like you might need a oversized 2x12, or break in them dang speakers. Also change the V1 tube to a darker 12ax7. Don't be afraid to dial OUT some knobs, like turn the treble off.

Are the v30s in Friedman's cab Chinese or English? If they are from England... I need to buy two more speakers. I have 2 EVH cabs and replaced two speakers in one cab with v30s...... made in China. I have Brutalized them for a year. EVH 5150III, Peavey 6505+ and of course BE100 with JBE mod cranked every day.. and I think they ROCK!.. But if you tell me it can sound better... hmmmm

all V30's have been assembled in China for years unless a company (Mesa, Marshall) has a specific spec'd V30.

I hope my cabs are usa v30s

Why? It's the same parts, same glues, same everything the way Celestion makes them, just a shop in China making them now since 2002 I believe. Sound exactly the same. There has been 100's of threads on this on other forums and no need to feel "cheated" cause your V30's are made in China. If Celestion would have never disclosed the China shop, nobody would have even noticed I guarantee ya. Celestion are super strict with tolerances and quality over there. Some say they even make them more consistent than 15 years ago.

Actually, all 4 speakers in the Friedman 4x12 are made in China. I haven't found a England made Celestion I like better than the V30 or Greenback yet. Maybe the Creamback, but I only like them in certain cabs.

I played the JJ and the Smallbox through the Friedman cabs with mixed speakers and both sounded great.

But the BE100 I played was connected to a Bogner 4x12 with all V30s which also sounded great.

But over here in Europe there is not much difference between the price for a Bogner and a Friedman...

I think it's because people (myself included) always associate v30s with Mesa.. Marshall.. etc. I did not know they were specifically voiced for them. So if someone says Chinese and v30.. you think something has changed in the tone and quality of the speaker. When it's just the different voicing of the v30.. My MIC v30s are well broke in now, and rock. I wasn't sure if Dave was using just plain v30s or the other branded v30s. Now I know.

My favorite cab has been the Bogner 2x12OS (from 2008 V30's Made in England) easy to carry sounds great in the studio and live. My BE100 sounds awesome through it.

Friedman couldn't use any other V30 unless he had a big contract like Mesa-Marshall. All other companies use regular V30's. The Mesa's are only ones that sound a hair different and I like the regulate sound comparison I heard. All regualr Greenbacks Reissues aren't England made in England either. This was a big heated dissociation back in early 2000's but the conclusion seem to be people don't care, Celestions still sound awesome.

Nothing really negative about China, more of a "made in USA" concern. If it's just the box is assembled in USA with speakers from CHINA then it'd only be fair to have an asterisk by it.No? One is a mesa 4x12,other a bogner closed back 2x12,v30s in both

No Celestion was ever made in the USA

So it's the wood and tolex, Was hoping English made for the speakers in my cabs, haven't researched it obviously. What ever bogner and mesa ship with is more of the answer I was looking for....v30s

You obviously know what V30's are in your Bogner since the info I gave you is correct. Unless it's a pre 2002 Bogner cab.

As a proud new owner of a JJ, I can also confirm that it sounds fantastic through a mix of V30s / 65M Creambacks, which I have in an x-pattern in my Zilla 4x12

Since the 65Ms are 97db vs the 100 db of the V30s, I may try what it sounds like if I rearrange them like in a Friedman cab, i.e. with the V30s at the bottom instead of the x-pattern.

I'm running a friedman 212 v30s on the bottom and a friedman 212 creamback65s on top. Hands down best combo I ever had. I love being able to choose just one or the other when needed also.

My cab is wired in stereo, so I can either use all four speakers or each set separately. But it's not real stereo of course as it is an X-pattern.

This cab seems to work better with the Friedman than with my Diezel, the latter seemingly prefers all V30s.
