I have one of the Metro Loops in stock if you want it. Just PM me about it.

Definitely... We'll do it

ok check it out.. The Mod 5 is , lower the filtering in the PI. Change it to a 2203, maybe, I say Maybe if needed bypass the 10k on v1b, add a PPIMV ... done... how he can cal lthis his mod is beyond me. Besides the clips you hear are all doctored up. Ever heard a dry one with JUST THE AMP? nope................ I do the mods from a players standpoint and Im really cheap. no hype just simple mods at fair price.

Wow. Why would that take 8 or 9 months to turn one of those around? How much was he getting for a Mod5 job?

Not to slam anyone... First come-- first serve, and all... and since the guy is a gigging guitarist-- and not a full time amp guy, I can see how it could take a while, for him to get to a given amp, especially if there are a bunch ahead of your place in line.

Just a quick update--

Jerry PM'd me and said the amp got there in great condition, and lit my GAS pilot light and turned up the heat full blast, saying it was a really nice specimen, and sounded great.

I can't wait to fire it up.

So you wanted a mod5/ Rockstah amp and you send it to Jerry D? interesting

I'm sure Jerry will have it sounding kick ass. It's gonna be awesome.

Carla????

No, I didn't want a "Mod 5/ Rockstah amp". I wanted a Plexi (Turns out its a Metro 12xxx, w/ the virtual variac, Lar/Mar PPIMV) w/ that mod and the ability to run stock, w/ the Metro Loop.

You come across as if you think it's a complex mod, doable only by Mark??? FYI-- It isn't...

Yes-- Jerry is doing the mod, but a few other things as well.

A. He's a friend
B. He is extremely capable
C. He's seen and done the mods for others
D. It will be done without an unknown wait time
E. His rates KILL Mark's

Hope that helps clear it up

Here is what he sent me earlier:

"amp is in great shape its also a great speciman. Its sounds better than a lot of Marshalls I've had here.

I should be able to start on it this weekend.

IM going to make it so you can get into VH territory two ways. Stock with lower filtering in case you ever want to play it loud and the other way by cascading the front and making it a 2203 ALA Mod 5. Lower filtering. Preamp filtering looks correct so Ill just be working in the power section."

I just didnt know Jerry could do something similar. Who`s Carla?

That chassis looks warped way out of square in that gut shot.

That's the camera shot... It's not...

But I agree, it looks that way in the pic.

Is anyone in this thread currently making fun of Zachman? Someone needs to be on point with always giving this guy a hard time.

Zachman Has GAS Like My Grandfather! Seriously, I Don't Know if This Guy is Buying Gear to Play it, or if He's Just Letting off GAS Before He Goes Ballooning!

Oh I play it...

I'd send that amp to Dave Friedman and let him work his magic if I were you...

Anyway you should definitely have a metro loop installed!

Thanks Nico-- Your post made me think about it, and I decided to go w/ your suggestion and have the Metro Loop installed.

FWIW, Jerry sounds like he's nearly done with the amp.

CAN'T wait...

I am picking up a Metro 12xxx, and having it modded w/ Rocktah's Mod5 tweaks, done by Jerry Dyer.

The amp is a Metro 12xxx series head. It has a white headbox with a Mercury Magnetics OT and vintage Sozo Caps, JJ pre-amps & Mullard re-issue power tubes. It also has a PPIMV, already installed.

The other amp I was considering, just didn't feel right-- after seeing the meh condition and the price the seller was asking, seemed too high. I am excited to get this thing cranking.

Woo Hoo
Why don't you get it and play some Halen through it before you turn it into a 2203 (preamp) with lowered filtering? I have basically the same amp built by George with the PPIMV and I am getting GREAT Van Halen tones with it stock. Personally, I recommend you play it first before spending any more cash and I bet Jerry would agree with me...

Steve

Seriously, why get it hacked up to a 2203 until you hear and feel the raw power of the 12000. So Jerry does Rockstahs mods now? Rockstah yelled at Steve about copying his VH mod on the internet about this I do recall. I would feel a bit better sending it out to Jerry though, if he indeed does the same mod, Rockstah was recently pulling Cameronisms with men.

I agree about the doctoring, it's reverb city
It's the playing and the reverb getting people all worked up, not the mod itself. A 12000 with either a light boost or a higher output pickup would sound just as good with the right playing and reverb... In fact, people were shitting themselves over his non-cascaded stock plexi clips before this mod... If you can play in that style and know how to produce it, you don't need a cascade... the PPIMV or other way of cutting the violence of a cranked 100W Marshall is the only essential ingredient of the mod...

Steve

You know i totally agree. I've been looking into this a bit as of late. Now, there's no doubt that the Mod5 sounds good, BUT, there's one on Ebay right now and the guy selling it posted the clips that, Mark Rockstah, made. Then he posted some of his own clips with the same amp. There's a BIG difference IMHO. Soo much in fact that i don't think a lot of people would be getting all worked up about it based on the clips that the other guy made. But shit, the original clip does sound soo damm close to the VH1 tone. But hearing the 2 clips makes made me really back off going after that amp on Ebay.

It should be no secret by now that tone has alot to do with the sum of the parts. If you don't play Rockstahs's amp through a good sounding cab or use the wrong type of guitar or ..........can't play that style it's not going to be impressive. You have to do the math here. Many guys over the years have played 12 series Plexis cranked on albums and how many albums can you recall having the VH sound besides VH? NONE IMHO.
Im also positive that EVH could give someone like the guy who posted his clips his Number one amp and youd have the same result. Now give the amp back to EVH, have him slap a variac on the amp, slam the front end with an EP, crank the shit out of it through Greenbacks and Guess what's going to happen ;)

All the best

~R~

I have my EVH type pick-up installed and will post a vid soon of my try at "brown" while screwing around with a evh phase 90 just to show I do not have "it" in my playing.

Sah5150 and Mentoneman are going to have nightmares and bitchslap the shit out of me for even trying :hys: :hys:
