This is my fave genre. I blame dad for giving me his original copy of Paranoid when i first started playing w the advice of "learn this". I did. Thanks Dad! There are some really good bands now too... Down, COC, Electric Wizard, YOB, Sunn O))) etc... i still bow to the masters Black Sabbath, Candlemass, etc

Anyone else here LOVE this stuff?

Funny, even before I logged on today I was halfway through Sabbath's self-titled album.

Love me some Iommi.

Check out some of my buddies in a band called Weedeater from NC.

Not your typical stoner/doom stuff, but it's in the same vein. ISIS are one of my favourite bands. Check out Cult Of Luna and Neurosis, too.

Stoner/Doom is my drug of choice. Its what keeps me going. LOVE it. I play drums in a band called Sheavy, check it out!

I was born in the late 70s and my parents were never really into the 80s thing, so I grew up listening to more Doors, Sabbath, CCR, Stones, Zeppelin, ZZ Top, etc. Stuff with groove. I didn't even know "doom" existed as a genre until several years back when I started to use the internet to look for new music. A friend turned me on to a couple of bands and I was sold.

You know, I've heard of Sheavy before but I never actually heard any of their music. I have a really short attention span, so it's rare that I'll remember to check out a band unless it's right in front of me. Just bought Celestial Hi-Fi. Listening to the first track and I like it.

IMO, the darker side of doom is more exciting than the stoner/rock bands that get more attention. Evoken, Disembowelment, My Dying Bride, Warning, etc.

OT, but I've always wondered if your name is a Smashing Pumpkins reference

I saw Weedeater in feb, great show. :P

The self titled Witch album is one big great stoner jam.

Looks like i have 30 gigs of just stoner doom stuff on my hard drive. Warning RULES! There is a really cool band that started as a candlemass coverband...then progressed into an Akerfeldt (not him...just sounds like him plus candlemass) fronted candlemass type band... the name of that band is Hooded Menace. I dig em. Give them a shot too. Also, a GREAT vid is titled Such Hawks, Such Hounds. Im totally cool about sharing stuff so if there is some thing you wanna try out PM me and ill rar it and share :)

It goes on and on and on... It's heaven and hell :rawk:

Heard Yob's most recent effort, The Great Cessation? TRY IT...awesome.

Funny this topic should come up as Doom metal has inspired me to mod a Big Muff π to get a more doomy sounding tone. I just wish I had the Plexi to run it into though!

I will definitely have to check out the "darker" doom. If the standard holds true that Sabbath's first and second albums were doom, and their third and fourth album were stoner rock, and if it follows that these "darker" doom bands sound like the first two by Sabbath, then I will enjoy them thoroughly!

And that was the world's most detailed sentence.
