MURDERATOR
Keep getting ads on faceback constantly… they any good? All hype? Just curious…

Curious as well. I think they have a pretty good track record.
Are you looking at the coated or non-coated?

They might feel weird if you're used to NYXLs. I tried a set of 9s after using NYXL 9s, and they were too slinky for me. The NYXLs are stiffer I think.

I think they’re a bit better than the run of the mill d’addario or EB strings, or at least their consistency is better. It’s nice being able to customize each set.

They’re probably worth the few extra $ on a guitar you play a lot.

Guy I know wanted to buy my Les Paul and had me set it up with his strings. He swears by String Joy. I set it up with them in standard tuning and they were nice. I feel weird playing anything that light tuned up that high, so it wasn't for me.

He backed out of the deal, so I just got it ready for sale on his dime. Thanks buddy.

Good strings, but I'm already sick of getting ads for them.

I didn’t want to buy into them because of the hype but I decided to bite the bullet on a set of Mark Morton sigs they had. Now they are on all my guitars and I give them to friends like party favors. I appreciate they are doing their own windings. Shipping takes a while but I’m sold on them now. No issues but I don’t play out anymore so I can indulge in nuance.

I’ve subscibed myself to NYXL 11-52s but I need to order some 54s and String Joy is the way to go for that methinks with their custom guages and string sets.

I had a set previously but they were on a guitar I never played so I don’t have much experience but it was indeed a custom set of 8 strings I put together after using the tension calculator.

$14 a set, but I'm about to try them. Specifically, the 9-40 set. Fender discontinued this set years ago. IMO, it's the perfect gauges for a .009 set. EVH's original string gauge choice, as well as Michael Schenker.

I have been using StringJoy for years. Amazing product! Price is no issue as I vault myself to the top of the charts

String Joys have a sound that is all their own.

I remember it being between an electric and acoustic sound for lack of a better description.

I could really hear the body of the strings like on an acoustic. Best way to describe it IME.

I would give them a go. Only one way to know if the sound is for you or not.

If the sound is for you though, I have not found other sets like them.

There’s an NYXL 09-40 set. That’s my go to for E and Eb

Overhyped IMO. Most strings feel very similar, and a ton of companies wind their own strings. D’Addario goes even further and draws their own wire for some strings, e.g. NYXL, XT, XS. Those strings do feel noticeably stiffer to me than most strings, and it’s probably because the wire is different.

I play Kahlers though. The biggest factor for me liking a string is how rugged the ball end twists are, since the cam puts a beating on them. NYXLs have a “fusion twist”, which just looks like they solder them at the factory. They hold up far better than any other string for me as a result.

To be fair, I haven’t given EB Paradigm a shot yet. They supposedly do something similar to reinforce the ball end twist
