I got a Timeline a while back and was very impressed, then I recently picked up a Mobius and am extremely happy with it. I've never used Fractal stuff only for effects, but their modeling and effects have always seemed notches above everyone else. Personally, I think the AxeFX even edges the Kemper. Anyway, I'm guessing the vote will go to Strymon, but I'm curious to see how well Fractal FX stacks up. What is your experience?

I've just come from a timeline and mobius. They are great units that have a real depth to their sound, especially the delays. I also had a blue sky which also sounded great.

Onto the fx8. I've only had it a week and initially I was underwhelmed however after spending a couple of late nights getting to know it better I'm getting more and more impressed with it. It's probably about 90% of the quality of the Strymon stuff which in a studio might be noticeable but in a mix with a live band sounds just fine.

In terms of quality of fx, the strymons take it but the flexibility that the fx8 brings with it can't be ignored and to me has made the switch worthwhile.

^This. The FX8 as expensive as it may seem at first, is a TON of bang for the buck when you consider what all of these effects would cost as discrete pedals. Some sound like home runs while others strike out, but you can find hundreds of cool tones inside and it doesn't take a lot of work to program it.
