This is a truly amazing guitar...
The feel of the neck on this guitar is unmatched by anything I own or have played....
But after playing it last night and switching back to my usa charvel and hot rodded usa strats, I dont think I'm going to keep this guitar.
I think I will order a Suhr with an alder traditional strat body and a 22 fret neck and I will be listing this guitar for sale today.
Damn dude. I find my Les pauls, Strats and Tele all feel different but not enough to off any one of them. How drastic of a feel is it? This is why I prefer to play them first.
Over the past four years or so I have totally gravitated to USA Charvels and American Strats.
I have 4 Fender American strats all hot rodded, three of them are just tits and bacon for me these days. I have different pickup configs too. The Charvel I have is just a sweet singing tone monster.
Eric Johnson Strat - Rosewood, 12 inch radius, the thick 60's style maple neck is to die for, 300k pots, nitro finish, JB Jr. in the bridge, neck and middle pups are stock EJ pickups. I have had this axe for two years and this guitar can do it all period... It's is a 80 shredder with the JB jr. in the bridge and plays smooth as butter. Can everything you can think of rock and blues wise too. I really just need to do a vid of this guitar in action as it impresses me every time I play it.
Black American Deluxe V-Neck - These Deluxe V-neck guitars are just amazing, soft "V" (very comfy) compound radius, locking tuners, sweet bridge, etc. I installed a custom WD music products pick gard with two zebra duncan humbuckers - JB & Alnico Pro APH-1 pickups w/3 way switching. The APH-1 in a maple neck strat will blow your mind, it is my "secret sauce" weapon of choice for insane tone. Has a fat strat like sound in the neck kind of P90-ish but humbucker too. The way this pickup sounds in a maple neck strat will make you do a double take. This one kind of looks like a classic Dave Murray style strat with the black bosy, maple neck and two humbuckers . Changing the springs and block is a nice upgrade too on these guitars.
1999 Hard Tail Strat - Hot rails bridge and classic stacks for the rest. Classic stack in the neck wails. I orderdd this strat brand new from Fender back in 1999. Avid strat haters have played this guitar and said "I think I'm going to buy a Strat now" this thing plays and sounds so good. This one came out really nice from the factory for a 899.00 guitar. I would never sell it in a million years.
I have another American deluxe Strat for it is two tone sunburst and is for sale at present. JB jr. in the brisge and stock passive mid 2000's fender single coils. This was my main player for a while until I go the black V-neck.
USA Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod - JB and Duncan APH-1 combo - man this axe just delivers. I bought up like 4-5 usa pro mods all at once and this one was the keeper for me and I liked its tone more than the usa custom shop san dimas Charvels I had. go figure...
Anyway these are what I have been playing and I really like the strat body style, the tight punchy sound of ALDER, and 22 fret feel... and especially the sound of a neck pick up in a 22 fret guitar. There is just no comparison when it comes to the singling lead tone of a neck pickup in a 22 fret guitar for my tastes...
I have a 2011 Gibson R8 that is beyond a keeper too.
That said this shur is very amazing in its own right and that's why I want to change course before I change my mind.
After seeing and playing the neck on this Modern guitar I keep thinking how a roasted birdseye maple neck will sound and feel on a Suhr vintage guitar body with a JB in the bridge and just a classic stack in the neck position with no middle pickup... Schwing !!!
Here are some cheesy pics I had on my phone of the guitars I have been playing for a while now.
