Dunno. That is fucked haha. Usually it's because of a top or other appointment but..well yeah.

Guessing greed on the Custom guitar?

The Pro is good deal and for sure way below list price.

Pro is also the better looking guitar, and I've bought from that store before.

Yep, I just bought my last Custom Modern from them (they also go by/or have a sister store: Gig Ready Guitars). That is pretty hard to explain alright, as the only main differences are the roasted maple neck ($150 list) and the black hardware ($300 list)....and it's Honduran mahogany. I've got a pro series satin modern myself as well as a modern with Honduran mahogany....and I much prefer the African mahogany overall vs. the Honduran. I see he's got a make an offer feature on his listing. I assume he knows he's looking at taking a bath on it, so I guess he thought he'd price it really high and just hope that a rare buyer would come along that wants it would submit a decent offer. I personally would choose the Pro Series one over it even if they were the same price.

When did Suhr start using Original Floyd Rose bridges? John has always said the Gotohs were superior and he stopped using the OFR bridges due to quality issues...

My guess is that the guitar was ordered to a custom spec prior to a similar spec being offered as part of the Pro-Series range. The guy probably never sold the custom, can't afford to sell it at Pro-Series retail prices & has made a point of saying it is a custom job.

I doubt Suhr invest any less time in their Pro-Series instruments than they do with their customs. I've side-by-sided my custom with a pro & the build quality is exactly the same in my opinion. I doubt Suhr even put aside the best pieces of wood for their custom guitars.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but Suhr don't have a 'Family Reserve' or 'Private Stock' wood or guitar classification.
I think the customer can go to John's workshop & hand-pick the wood for their custom guitar if they want.

I never got that Gotoh thing...they're cheap pieces of crap compared to an Original Floyd.

You can order a spec'd out guitar that is almost exactly like a production model. Not sure why. But I thing the off the shelf models are great.

I love the red lava finish. Have not seen that on a store standard run. Oh well. Like I need another guitar.....

They are good trems but my guess is Suhr uses them because they got a better bulk deal on them which helps increase profit margins. Some will believe anything...if John Suhr said the sun sets in the north the fanbois would not question it and accept it as fact

From Suhr

It is in fact an original Floyd. We revisited the Floyd's and found them to be much improved. The tone and performance are excellent

I've been thinking about getting a satin modern. I've so been toying with the idea of having it refinished in white cause I want a white modern really badly and this might be the cheapest way rather than spending double on a Custom Modern.

I bought a Suhr Classic recently that has a Gotoh Floyd and I am very pleased with that Floyd (as well as the whole guitar). I like the Gotoh Floyd better than my OFR's as well. To me they are nicer.

Not all the custom moderns are custom orders though, right?
So I wonder how much Suhr themselves charged the dealer for both those guitars since they are so similar.
Yeh, I was wondering about the switch from Gotoh as well...

Like I say, I reckon that custom guitar is an early serial number & Suhr happened to add the same spec guitar to their pro-line which subsequently de-valued the guys custom order guitar. It's only a theory though. I woulda thought someone at Suhr would've said "You do know we offer virtually the same configuration as that in our pro-line?". I know i'd be gutted.

I custom ordered mine through a shop in the UK. That shop does sell custom Suhrs from stock so I guess they still fill out a custom order form.

They're completely different guitars. The only similar thing is the satin mahogany body and SS frets.

Ebony vs rosewood
Clay dots vs no dots
Black hardware vs chrome
Aldrich vs SSV and SSH +
16" radius vs 14"
780 vs 800 neck shapes
Maple neck vs mahogany
Hard case vs gig bag
Hipshot vs Suhr tuners
Gotoh vs Floyd rose

Without looking it up, do you know how many of those options are custom-order-only nowadays?

When it's called a Custom order it only means that you get to choose exactly what you want for options. The pro Series are a certain set of specs decided by Suhr. You cannot change those.

Exactly! Not to mention that you have found two different guitars at two different stores. The stores have determined their price point-not Suhr.

I remember when EVH came out with the Music Man guitars he was PISSED because they couldn't get a real Floyd and had to use the Gotoh, he said something to the effect that it was bad enough that Floyd Rose had ripped him off in the first place (supposedly the fine tuners were Eddie's idea), but now he couldn't even get one of "his own" tremolos !

their prices are just fucked all around... I rather pick up a trussart for that kind of money... at least its a work of art in addition to being an instrument.

How are their prices fucked? They're a relatively small company. They aren't pumping out hundreds of guitars every day like Gibson.
