I’ve heard a lot of good things about Suhr guitars. I’m thinking about getting one but I want to do my homework first. I write and record my own instrumental music. I’m a big fan of Andy Timmons’ tone and style. I can pretty much get some of his tones already so I’m not getting a Suhr for that reason. I’m just gassing for a new guitar and I want to pick one that will get my tones.

So, which Suhr and why? Also, what’s the best way to go about getting the specific Suhr I want?

I’m also looking at a Tom Anderson so the question above also apply.

A lot of options between either one. Really depends on your style. With the Timmons tones I'd go Maple neck with a HSS pick ups. I've played Suhr for 10 + years. So I'd side with them. Fit, finish and tone are all there in spades. Suhr's are amazing for modern specs/feel and vintage vibes. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the SSC system. If you can I would really try to play both of them if you have the chance. Either one will inspire you. Xotic XSC-2 is another Super Strat that I would look at too.

Personally I'd get a Tom Anderson ora a Schecter Usa over a Suhr

Having owned 2 suhrs and 2 tom Anderson. , I find I like Tom Anderson better. Both guitars are great for finish and quality but I like Anderson pickups better ( unless it’s the Aldrich) But suhr has a stiff feel to me , where Anderson’s seem to be just easier to play. To date my Tom Anderson drop top is the absolute best playing guitar I’ve owned !!

at that price point, all of those companies are doing fantastic things. the build quality and playability will be pretty damn good. it's more of a preference thing at that point. i've never played a bad Suhr(owned 5 of them). I've owned some top notch Charvels and played some TAs. All amazing at that price point.

So many possible spec's between the two, it's hard to say.

I generally prefer Anderson, but there are some Suhr carves I really like , as well.

What type of neck carve do you generally go for? Anderson doesn't offer a "standard" spec, so you're limited to what a dealer spec's, or a custom order.

If you have a Suhr dealer nearby, it would be great to check out their standard models, so you have an idea of what's available off the shelf; that also makes it a bit easier to go used,

Both are great. I've got 2 of each. If you want something specific then youll have to order one.

Suhr makes production models and custom orders. Tom ONLY makes custom orders. Every guitar he makes has a custom order attached to it.

Rocket Music has a custom Suhr configurator and he will get you a price quick. He can also do the same for a Tom Anderson.

Thanks for the info. I’m leaning towards an Anderson Drop Top.

Both are excellent. Personally I prefer Anderson. I recently got a custom order Superbird that's damn good. Also have a drop top that's just great that I've had for close to 20 years.

I wouldn’t pick one company other the other but rather treat each guitar individually and choose which you like best.

Owned three Suhrs and two Anderson’s. I still own two Anderson’s. Loved the Suhrs they are fantastic but the TA always felt better to me. All of mine have been used, however ponying up to get a third TA.

Can’t go wrong with either. Both are really nice guys and their companies make incredible guitars.

Unfortunately I don’t like the new Anderson neck joint. Ive had several of the new ones and of the old (traditional) style, and the new ones just don’t do it for me. It’s crazy but the sustain isn’t right, and it’s been consistent across three of them. But that’s probably just me being nuts. Everyone else loves it.

Same happened here with a few Suhrs come and gone and bonded with the Andersons
Andersons feel like an original song, Suhrs like a good cover version

Anderson fan here. Suhr are great guitars but You cannot compare non-custom Suhr to Anderson. Agree with stiff feel of Suhrs, but I played one Antique Govan and absolutelly outstanding. However every Anderson I played was amazing.

my dog chews better headstock than both of them.

haha! Does anybody else just not get along with Buzz Feiten tuning? I have owned Anderson's and can pretty much dial it out intonating 3rd to 15 fret, but it just bugs my neuroticness knowing it's there.
