I’ve never been a huge Ibanez fan, but I had a J Custom for a while that was a very nice guitar. It really forced me to rethink my opinion of Ibanez because it wasn’t just nice for an Ibanez, it was just flat out a nice guitar. Fit and finish was very, very good. I still sold it though. The wide flat neck made my fretting hand hurt and something about the acoustic properties of the guitar was off. I’ve since got a Suhr Modern and it really is a step or two above the J Custom IMO. The woods in the guitars is the same except for the fretboard (Suhr – Pau Ferro, Ibanez – Rosewood), but they sound worlds apart. The Suhr is just so much more resonant and clear. The acoustics are much more even and ‘real’ sounding. The neck is much more to my liking also. Now don’t get me wrong, the J Custom was nice, especially considering the price I got mine at ($1250 brand new!!!), but my money is on the Suhr.
