I don't know what is going on over there but the guitar I ordered came with a real pro set-up, it was even in tune out of the box.

That is a first for me.

Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut! :giggle:

That is really funny but I do have a new sales rep. So far, he has been impressive.

Co-worker a long time ago use to say it every time he had the chance.
It works in all kinds of situations and always gets a good laugh.

I'll be more or less surprised depending on what the guitar actually is. At this time of year, depending on where you are, the temperature and humidity changes the instrument goes through on its journey are a big part of how it's going to seem when you first open it up. That's why Sweetwater now has that print out in the box pleading with you to not take the guitar out of its case for 24-48 hours or something.

But some guitars are just naturally more temperamental than others for whatever reason. I've generally found my fenders/fender type guitars to be the more resilient. Maybe it's just the maple necks. My Explorer is a real bitch about it and any remotely cool and dry time of year just the act of warming the neck up by playing it makes it go crazy tuning-wise for about 30 minutes.

This thing was set-up perfectly, string height, truss rod, intonation and string height at the nut.

Never had this happen before, and have bought many guitars over the years.

Very nice! I love the tele shape. Is the neck roasted maple? Looks like it, and that is about as stable a neck as you can get if so. I bought an American Pro II tele from Sweetwater early last year and it also came set up well.

Yes, roasted maple. I am glad to hear Fender is producing good guitars.

I have a 96 Tele that was a sloppy mess. Poly left on the frets, it was a total catastrophe until I went over it.

based on your OP we knew it wasn't a new Gibson. :D
I was very lucky when the last one I bought brand new right at the beginning of 2019 arrived set up right and almost still in tune - from Musicians Friend no less. However the nut still wasn't cut quite right and the G string did bind up. Can't win 'em all I guess.

That tiny bit of Poly on the frets of a one piece maple neck is not out of the ordinary with them because of how they finish it. They could definitely do a final fret polish and take it off but everyone says "it comes off with playing."

Typical, the old school mom and pop music store would correct that shit before it even went on display.

Imagine a crazy fairytale world where Gibson themselves actually managed to take a few minutes and backfile the nut slots a little bit so it actually didn't happen in the first place.

Funny, I had that happen last month. All I had to do was tweak the truss rod a 1/8 of turn.
