yes I vote the mark v 25 also , it can do anything except full blown metal at volume, other then that its a killer amp and it pretty loud just not 100 watts thumping...

I have an early 101B and it is truly the first amp that I have had which really does it all for me and then some. So very happy with it. I would love the 20th version but at this point, I like what I have.

Are you looking for one that does all those tones at the press of a button? Like live, in the moment going from metal to jazz?

Or is it ok if it's a single-channel amp that requires knob twisting and switching stuff around to get a new sound? I know plenty of single channel amps that can cover any ground you want, but you need to re-EQ them and whatnot.

I figure the less extreme the amp's voice, the more versatile it becomes, particularly when you can throw pedals at it.

The badger 30 is great from what i've heard. It's still pretty pricey though so not sure if it classifies as downgrading.

This ones gonna be out in left field a bit, but the Tone King SkyKing would do it for me. First off, this thing has the best clean channel I've ever heard, every bit as lush as any blackface SuperReverb on the planet. And a long spring reverb and tremelo that will get you all spaced out and spellbound. The clean channel on this amp will have you playing shit you never dreamed of. It amazing. The dirty channel is stunning for anything blues up to about AC/DC tones. Here's where this amp really shines. Best pedal amp ive ever owned. Stay on the clean channel, and throw a Suhr Riot in front of it and it just slays. I brought it to an open mike gig and hammered the front end with the Riot, you would have thought I had a Dan Gower Killer Kali on stage. Heads were turning, faces melting, it was fantastic. And to bounce back into the most juicy Fender clean all at the tap of the Riot pedal,,,,amazing.
The amp also has a built in iron man attenuator for both channels, which will get you super quiet if needed. For a combo amp the size of a small suitcase, it's the best amp that with a pedal or 2, does it all for me. They aren't cheap tho, new at 3k.

Great amp, and I researched it thoroughly. I agree with everything you said, BUT.... My biggest reservation was the overdrive channel. I also will need to demo anything before buying. I'm a poor man with rich taste, and if I'm dropping $3000, it needs to be a slam dunk for me. Going into NYC to a studio that has all of these amps to try out. You pay $20 per hour to try all kinds of gear in a private room. Totally worth it in my eyes. I will see if they have one. Thanks

I have heard of that place. Ultimate sound I think it's called. Could be a different place, but the one I heard about was exactly as you say; pay a fee and try out some of the best amps ever made. Also, yes you are exactly right, the overdrive channel on the SkyKing doesn't do higain, man if it did, I think they'd have a monster on their hands. For a Swiss Army knife amp, the overdrive channel for this amp is the one knive that I don't take out much, as I'm not a low gain bluesy type player. For me they could have lowered the cost of the SkyKing and just make it a single clean channel amp. It's clean is the real standout. And the amp is 30 or 40 watts unattenuated, and it has no problem hanging with a drummer, especially with a good drive pedal in front.
Good luck on your search man. Keep me posted on what you find out and what sounds good while in NYC. I'm interested to hear what you are leaning towards. I thought no they may have some Bruno 'Cowtippers' or other Bruno amps there, and I hear those are stellar as well.
Best of luck in the search Bud!

/13 AMW39 is cool, Cerietone make 35 that is good also. Landry is another maker... Just too many, and none of them are cheap.

For what it's worth, best clean I've heard is on a Two Rock Classic Reverb.

Another vote for the Mark V 25 or 35, and also remember that one has a headphone jack which can be a really big deal when the wife doesn't want to hear you anymore.
