Every issue of Guitar World and Guitar Player I get in the mail has these two guys on the cover or all over the inside for months on end now...

Is this just a sign of the times or are standards just dropping through the floor???

I just can't take it anymore... ARRRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is probably what guys our age were saying in the 80s when players like Slash, DiMartini and Vai were on the cover.

Kind of ridiculous to compare guitar gods to a couple of emo fruitcakes

Well it all started new years eve 2005... We were driving from Ft. Lauderdale to Tampa to play a show...

My drummer forced me to listen all the way across Alligator Ally to these painfully long songs on a painfully long CD of the aforementioned band/guitarists...

I have just hated these guys ever since

FWIW... I was living in LA through all the entire 80's metal scene when I was a teenager

Used to see Racer-X, Yngwie, Alex Masi and every other shred and cock rock guitarist in the universe weekly plus all the cool thrash metal (Slayer, Testament, Exodus, DRI, etc), cross over, skater punk and mosh bands of the era...

It was the shit!

Giles, you never cease to crack me up.

I agree with you though. They're not terrible players, but I don't care for them at all. They're extremely overrated.

But those guys could play the music they wrote in the studio live.

so, lets get this straight, when bands like korn and limp bizkit weren't soloing, everyone was complaining.

now, that soloing cool again, it gets picked on because of the style of music?

personally, i dont care for most of that bands music either, but theres some tasty guitar stuff going on there...some of which, i do like.

i've seen EVERY guitar player that emerged in the 80's fuck something up that was played in the studio, btw, at one point or another.

including Vai.

Yeah, but I remember singing the praises of Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen and having some older guys tell me that they couldn't compare to Hendrix, Page, Frampton, and Trower...I think it all relative.

Dude, soloing rocks....But a good song does not lead work make.

i was operating under the assumption that they were two ugly chicks
 :D

Business 101. And I feel like half a fag for saying this but chicks dig em,and dudes who wear those tight ass ball hugging, tight around the anckle pants wearing sissy's think that this band is rad dude,so with these ankle grabbing makeup wearing mama's boys are on the cover, the dudes who wear vans and those "jeans" buy em up.
And while our hero's like Vai etc were on the cover.it seemed to be a mag about guitar and talent, now it's about boys who wanna be girls, mike portnoy included for thinking dream theater should stop playing. And they have snazzy names, what's portnoys new name gonna be? I can only imagine.
Just my opinion

They are 2010's version of Wes Borland and Fred Durst. Guitar World magazine went through a two-year period where those guys names were on the cover "somewhere" non-stop. I guess you could say the Korn guys were also on there nonstop.
