T4335 vs T4335b?

I had two 2000 OS Recto 412s side by side. Date codes were a few months apart. They sounded pretty different. One was harsh; super scooped and difficult to deal with. The other was fine and sounded pretty good.

I mentioned that experience to the York Audio guy and he said he had a similar experience.

Dunno if it was a difference in the speakers or the cab or what.
I previously had an OS slant that was very harsh & hard to deal with. I never pulled the back to look but looking at the serial # I'd put it around 2002-2003. It still had the non-recessed handles.

By chance was one of yours slant & one straight?

Broken in vs not most likely.
Very well could be but I dunno. The one that sounded terrible was a road dog from a local band. The one that sounded good was in perfect shape and still had the hang tag on it. Maybe the road dog had a busted speaker or something, but the sound from each one seemed even.

One was a slant (the one that sounded bad to me) and one was Mesa's straight-slant (straight enclosure but the typical slant baffle).

This is crazy but every Mesa straight-slant cab I've had sounds awesome but I've struggled with the normal slants. I have a hard time imagining that a little bit of cabinet overhanging the top makes any difference, but IDK.

My ‘03 OS is a slant and the most musical cab I’ve ever heard.

Yeah, like with any other (especially vintage) gear I think it just comes down to the individual piece. Some are better than others! I've been through so much (Mesa) gear, I can only keep the best (for me) few pieces of kit around.

I got my cab with a minty slipcover for $400 used. Best steal deal of my life.

Don't overthink the B on the end of the T-code, it doesn't signify any change in the design. The aspect that does change over time (with all Celestions) are the cones, which are made by Kurt Mueller to a consistent spec but with variable results due to changes in production techniques. There's no "special" version of the V30, just that in certain time periods the cones happened to sound best (in my opinion, from 2000-2003/4).
The 60w vs 70w rating is also correlation not causation, the truth is as @dr teeth has written - Mesa (and Marshall) felt the V30 had higher power handling than Celestion wanted to claim. At some point they reverted to rating them at 60w as per Celestion's spec.

Thanks for the tag!

Ah, I appreciate the thought but unfortunately outside of Celestion-land I'm somewhat out of my depth!
What do you think about the T4335 from 2005? I've just got a 4x12 Traditional Recto cab here in Brazil (mesa cabs are pretty rare here). Speaker's serial number (29FQ).
