Hi guys, I'm writing this to see what you guys think about it?

I'm planning to buy one for my rig, the thing is that I have the amps I love so I really don't need axe fx emulation, I would only use for fx, but I think is a little bit expensive just for fx. Now I've seen G force for a good price, how is the quality of the fx compare to the axe fx? Does it worth it? Or I just better save more money for axe fx?... Decisions...... Hehehehe hope to get some help over here guys and Thank you!

You are asking the wrong board, man. We actually have a guy here that uses an AxeFx for a TUNER lol...

As for me, I have an Axe and dig it, but I use it a lot for recording so can't really help out here, sorry. FX are really good though!

Someone will be along shortly with some experience using both, I'm sure.

What about the Fractal FX8?

axe fx, even the original standard, is simple to operate, and all the fx sound terrific. The digital implementation is well done so you can run it serially, even 4 cable, and you don't have to worry about your sound. It does a great deal more than a gforce. But even standards are holding value fairly well, and it's 2ru if space is important to you.

g force sounds terrific for what it does, with the exception that the reverb is just ok at best. it's fine for most guys. everything else sounds excellent. still not as many options as the axe, but good and powerful nonetheless. I use the g force in serial without a mixer and it sounds fine to me- other guys may suggest or complain that you need a mixer because it degrades the sound too much but frankly, I think it does sound fine. I've had rigs with mixers and I agree they offer an improvement, but in this case, as is it really is ok to me.

I got my g force second hand for $400 so I'm really happy. I had an axe standard back when they came out and I really liked it, but I quit playing for a few years and had sold all my gear.

both units are simple to program and offer very good routing possibilities.

All in all the axe is a much better option, but even a used standard, if you can find one, is 2-3x the cost of a used g force and so your needs will ultimately dictate what you use.

I like my G Force, it's a bit annoying to program, especially for me that was used to a Gmajor2 before the Force, but for the price they are going for on the used market today, it's a great unit. Sound quality is really good IMHO, but I have never owned an AXE.

You guys are right,

The thing, is that I can find a g force for low price, but axe fx is expensive, so I was wondering that, is the difference in sound that huge to justify the price? and about the fx8 yea I have my eyes on that too hehehe.

Since you're using it for effects, does that include OD/Distortion stuff? Because the G-Force won't do that for ya. (There's a Drive block, but it's meant for driving/distorting effects and certainly isn't an in-line type effect)

I've been using my G-Force for almost 10 years now and I love it. I got it originally because Vai got one and ditched more than half his old live rack in it's place......and Sam Ash had a new one marked at $500 because someone thought it was a G-Major. I'm also not a huge fan of the reverbs and the chorus/flange leaves a bit desired...would love a good vibe sound from this as well but that won't happen.

I still use the chorus plenty, but it's not very thick, so I find it best for clean tones....(chorus on distortion is for pussies unless you're Alex Lifeson, anyway :D )

I've also heard people bitch about the signal loss but I'm deaf or dumb enough to it that I can't hear it. I figure, as well, if it worked for Vai in an effects loop, it'll work for most others.

You'll definitely be getting more with the AxeFX, because you can always go 4-cable and get all those dirt/fuzz pedals up front of your amp and I'm sure there's a lot more modulation effects in the Axe that the G-Force can't even touch. Is the extra price worth those things for ya?

Hi!

Not, it does not include OD or distortion, I even have a lot of chorus pedals and flangers, although I was looking for a good reverb though. And yea that's what I though, if it is good enough for Vai hehehehe, he is using axe fx now I know, but the price difference is really big.

This is a subjective thing, man....you're the only one that can make that decision. I have an Axe II, yeah...because I used every other thing out there first and liked this better. Is it justified to ME? Certainly...and when you weigh the cost of a good amp, cab, pedalboard etc...it's really not that expensive in the end. YMMV, but it works for me.

Also, check out the AX-8 that Fractal just unveiled recently.....floorboard, all the models and FX that are in the Axe II/XL, and it's going to retail for $1399.

http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii ... price.html

It can't do everything that Axe can do, as it can only run one amp and one cab at a time, but still....for $1399 this is a good thing...

I mean the Axe is appealing to me mainly for it's recording options. For just FX it probably isn't worth it. That said I love the FX on my g system which I assume is very similar to the G force (though the G system does have a decent vibe on it). That said I'm sure the FX on the Axe are great too, but again dunno it's worth the $ if you're not planning to use it for recording or amp modeling at all.

This is a good point.

You can get an original Axe-Fx (probably don't even need the Ultra) for very little nowadays. Effects are great.

Probably still twice as much as the g force though I'd think.

Previously used AxeFXII FRFR rig and before that G system for effects. AxeFX was too much for me so went back to amp/cab (PT100) and bought the FX8....I know the AX8 is only going to be 1399 and I'm told that I should feel aggreived because it makes the FX8 redundant, but really I couldn't be happier... stellar fx, relay switching, built like a tank and dead quiet.....

Thank you guys, and yes I know everything is subjective... Right now I think the axe fx is too expensive for just using the fx, I may try the g force and see what happen hehehe. Thank you!

When I used to play out I used a G-Force for 10 years and it met most of my needs. Having said that, if I were to start gigging again I'd just buy analog stomps and put them in the loop. The G-Force is ok but I think pedals in a loop sound better...to my ears.
