Price in The Netherlands € 650,= incl VAT.

Gives more dynamic feel and depth in my patches.

Koch will be on the 2014 Winter NAMM.
Advice: Test it yourself :-)

Here some explanation from Dolf's blog why this hybrid behaves like a tube amp:

In Practice
Our ATR series of hybrid amps the Jupiter, Startrooper and ATR4502 (see also the blog article about these amps), are designed in such a way that they react the same way to speakers as tube amps. Although they operate with mosfets to drive the speaker, their ouput power does not fall back to 50% if the impedance is doubled. This is one of the reasons why our ATR series of hybrid guitar amplifiers sound like real tube amps.

Although their speaker outputs behave similar to tube amps you can safely disconnect the speaker and play them without a speaker or load connected. If you do that you will not damage anything.

And after testing I can certainly experience this

Been struggling for quite some time to get my live setup (based on an Ultra with 4 2x12 with V30's and GK100's) more 3D sounding and dynamic. Tried and tested al lot of lineair SS-amp solutions and altough there are a lot good amps out there I came to the conclusion that if I wanted an non-lineair respons I needed an non-lineair poweramp solution. Secondly I did not wanted to carry 20 lbs or more of tube amp with me. So what to do ??????

Then 1 month ago I learned from the FAS forum that KOCH from the Netherlands was working on a light (5,5 kg) 1HE high stereo hybrid solution. Knowing the build quality of their products and their no-nonsens mentallity I decided to contact them. Last November I went with my setup to their factory. A/B my setup with the GThousendFX against their ATR-4502.

That afternoon we just A/B some clean crunch and heavey patches I made for the GThousandFX. I had no time to change any settings but solely based on this A/B test I got a big smile on my face. The sound and response was just more 3D, alive and I experienced a much better response between my guitar and the amp/speakers. Call it dynamic punch or whatever. I liked it. It is not as dynamic as a good old Marshall stack but it is a big step in that direction.

Here is some more info: http://www.koch-amps.com/atr-4502.html

Dolf Koch explained that the reason for development of this amp was exactly what I was after. In Japan the Distributer of the AXFX asked about a stereo non-lineair lightweight 1U poweramp that would give the response of a tube poweramp.

Yesterday was the grand final with a very loud drummer and the rest of the band. Conclusion...ATR-4502 slays and stays and my GThousandFX is my new backup amp.

This is just to inform you guys to know some new developments out there. Not dissing Fractal Audio or Matrix or any SS or FRFR solutions. I have no affiliation with Koch or get paid or whatever. Just sharing information.

BTW Koch will attend NAMM so you can test/try it.

Have fun!

Do you have axe-fx poweramp simulation On/Off?
Also do you still need to set speaker resonance frequency and LF resonance value in the advanced tab of an amp block?

I think I am gonna try one!

cheers!

Yes, Amp sim fully on and cab resonance freq set to my 2x12 V30 (103 Hz). Cab sim is off.

It just gives more dynamic respons and and better 3D sound. FYI I use it with the Ultra.

Tell us if you liked it.

Other advantages against the GThousandFX.
- No plop when turning on or off
- Louder and thus more powerfull
- Less powerloss on increasing speaker ohmage
- Bit cheaper
- No ventilator noize. The ventilator stage goes on when the amp temp hits 60 Celcius (I believe)
- No coloring/voicing added (except for the speaker impedance curve)
- Can also be used with other tube pre-amps or pre-amp pedals
- Bit heavier. It only weighs 5,5 kg

Hi,
Thanks!

But after reading some more on this amp today i am more confused about needing the Axe fx power amp sim.
The website states the amp delivers tube dynamic response AND tone. How does it feel and sound without amp sim on Axe fx?

So, about response. It seems like this amp is measuring the speaker impedance and set output somewhat accordingly just like a tube amp, hence 'the tube feel'. So no need for setting LF resonance in Axe fx amp block for this is closely related to impedance matching then? Isn't also the speaker frequency in the AXe fx amp blok part of simulating the power amps interaction with the speaker (again impedance).

Also tube tone suggests that there is some coloring/compression or something is going on. I noticed there are some 12ax7 tubes in there for that reason.

Doesn't the power amp sim on Axe fx just mudd up the sound? Especially at higher volume.

Just wondering... :)

What i also like about this amp is that it seems more guitar speaker friendly than the gtthousandfx. Not to much wattage which can damage your speakers if you are not carefull and more speaker configurations possible.

Cheers!
