Anyone here ever experience issues with either or both of the TFCCs in each wrist? I've had pain in the area for years on my right wrist (picking hand), and it started getting worse late last year, and then a few months ago the left starting bothering me as well. Went to the doc, got an MR arthrogram, and apparently I have some thinning of the TFCC. Physical therapy has not helped at all - braces have slowed down it's worsening, but haven't made it better. The only thing that works is ice, and that's only temporary. I really want to avoid the surgery, as I've heard very mixed results.

Anyone deal with this at all?

I have/had it. I didn't play guitsr or piano for almost half a year. I also got an ergonomic keyboard and mouse for work. Resting was the best. Good luck

-had it,... Keeping your wrist straight cured it.

Do you mean while playing, or in general? I've been trying both, just curious which worked for you.

I don't know what TFCC is but I had tendonitis in my picking elbow pretty bad a while back. I get pain once in a while in my forearms and elbows when i overdue it, check out this,I tried it last time I had a flare up and it helps, and it's free.

-after going through therapy they explained that the cause is from "un-due stress on elongated tendon's + repetitive motion".. When you bend your wrist you stretch your tendon's to there limit, then you add to it by doing " unnatural acts with your finger's "<------add-obvious-wittisism's-----<<<<<<

-so yes, play with your wrist straight, or as straight as possible, you'll be surprised how fast your wrist feels better..... Hope it works for ya.

I get a double whammy of tendon pan and cysts in my fretting hand's wrist. Ironically, the damn things spur up when I stop lifting heavier for an extended period of time. Also ironic, when it flares up the only thing I can do is actually play the guitar.. I can't bare any weight on my left hand (something as simple as pushing off a seat) without stupid pain but I can still play the guitar thankfully.

I hope you get through it my friend. I'd suggest laying off of it until the pain goes away completely. As one of the above comments suggested, keep it straight. Wear a brace to immobilize it throughout the day if you have too. Stretch and gradually build back up to your normal level of playing.
I think Steve K.(the gentlemen who makes the cherry bomb amps) went through a long bout with something similar. You might reach out to him.

I curl up when I sleep (cuz that's how people with no 'issues' sleep ) and that was a big source of wrist problems. Wearing the braces when I sleep helps. Noodling on guitar in some slumpy position while watching TV was another source.

Learning to wrap my thumb over really allowed me to make it easier on the wrist too. Too many bar chords wasn't helping and wrapping the thumb over got me to play those chords with a straight-ish wrist.

I have some elbow pain, but I think it's from masturbating. But my straight picking has never been stronger or faster.
