TGP "hype machine" - contrived and intentional?

Anyone ever get the feeling that TGP is nothing more than a forum that's dedicated towards hyping up boutique companies for the sole purpose of increasing profits for certain boutiques? It sure seems that way at times.

Also, I just did a search on whether or not JHS is a true cloner like Freekish Blues was. It's odd how TGP went about censoring things.

To sum, do you think the whole organic and grassroots feel of TGP is more or less a rouse? I'm starting to think this, hence my thread on it. I just want to know about people's specific experiences.

I just can't get into that forum. Ive tried but its worse than this place.

In what ways is this place "worse?" I'm guessing that's more of a "tongue-in-check" joke? I don't log on to this forum that often, mainly because the traffic is lower, but the threads here don't seem contrived. They seem to reflect random player's opinions and whatnot (which seems to lean to metal heads and hard rockers).

Whenever I do a search on gear, I inevitably come to a series of TGP threads. Lately, I've been researching the phenomenon of cloners and rip-off artists in the pedal industry. Through my searches I've run into some posts, threads, and censoring that at face value seem to indicate a hidden motive/agenda to TGP. Do you sense that too? Is that why you can't get into that place?

Peterson is TGP. The entire place is corrupt, IMO. Peterson using "donations" to line his pockets. They favor certain builders there. The mods are corrupt, specifically the rotund slob, "Big Mike") aka "Fat Fuck" On a thread where guys were overjoyed w/ their plexi builds, made by a hobbiest, Fat Mike proceeded to butt in in an attempt to destroy the guy's sideline, even insinuating the guy wasn't paying taxes, etc.

Place is full of shit. I hope I one day hear Peterson got baseball-batted into the ground

Wow. Thanks. What you wrote is totally relevant to my suspicions, but I just wish I had measurable, empirical data to fall back on. My hypothesis is that TGP has a hidden agenda that people aren't aware of, but I just don't know whether or not this "feeling" I'm getting from the threads I come across is enough to support such a conclusion.

It's all quite interesting. It's like a psychology experiment that people don't know they are apart of.

Use it as a research tool. IMO, that's all it's good for. If I'm researching an amp or pedal, I use their SEARCH, otherwise the place is a waste of time.

The hangers on, rank and file almost always follow suit...poor ignorant fools, dont even realize they have been co-opted.

It happens to a certain extent on all forums but at tgp its definitely intentional. Even here I see people in an effort to be liked by manufactures fall all over themselves with praise for products that sound mediocre at best. sad

That place just reeks of shills. There are so many "companies" that I have never heard of that appear out of nowhere as the greatest things since sliced bread there that it is laughable. I trust no one and nothing there. Its just ridiculous how the mods rarely even try to hide the agenda anymore.

I agree you can see it on all forums, it's just a matter of degree imo.

TGP is shill infested, the mods are in collective denial about it, hiding behind all the rules/policies that on the surface white wash their true intentions.
