A-Bone is a great guy. I am on another private board with him and I can't say enough good things about him.

He might come off as smug but he isn't, it's just the way he talks. He is a University lecturer (maybe even a prof, I'm not sure), and sometimes he doesn't turn off the academic A-Bone and just be A-Bone the regular guy.

That's a sad outlook. The little teaching I did (guitar lessons, some tutoring) showed me you have to know your subject better than the average guy 'doing it'.

I understand AND accept you see him that way.

I'm aware of who and what he does in the film appreciation world and yet I don't rate him as an academic in any sense of the word because ego, single laning toward others and arrogance cancels that out in an instant. A true intellect would never behave that way and that's why there are very few intellects, and I do mean very few.

I believe and know, based on his own laid trail of evidence, he is a smug asshole because at his core that's who he is.

What I believe is where I live and what you believe is of course your world so the above is not to attempt to change your mind nor is it to denigrate you. I'm saying in detail why I see him as I do and nothing more.
