Has anyone used these with success?
My understanding is they do well for gigs and loud rehearsals but not so well for bedroom volumes.
When you try to reduce the volume too much to very low levels they go wonky, otherwise they work well.
Any comments would be appreciated.

I have to say that I'm glad I kept mine after all these years.

It works fine for me. Nothing is perfect when trying to use stuff at whisper volume. Personally it's better to me than a modelling amp.

Exactly, not going to be a bedroom solution but live or for recording, you just need it to knock down a few db. I use it down to -8 when I record and I don't notice negative impacts on the sound. Just allows me to control the overall volume a little better in the rest of the house and get the amp up on the MV. It is relatively cheap too. If you are going new, I would prob just get the fryette powerstation or rockcrusher. Same thing will apply though...bedroom levels are just to practice chops, not for tone.

It wouldn't be a cash deal. Just a trade for a couple pedals I don't use.

For a bit more money I think the Rivera Rock Crusher is much better. I suspect prices on used Rock Crushers may go down with the Fryette Power Station out now. And if you can swing the Power Station go for that. Sounds great at TV volumes and has built in power amp. I also like that it works with any cab or amp impedance. For example, you can plug in a 16 ohm amp and 4 ohm cab at same time with no problems.

I still use mine, works great for slaving as well!

Rivera Rock Crusher
pffffft.
Pick up the new Fryette Power Station, it's destroys everthing out there.
I just sold my Aracom, RockCrusher, Alex & Phantom.
The Power station is in a whole different league.

I used the yellow one with a Fender Bassman for about 2 years.

Once you start using it with amps like the Bassman, you do not want to play without it as it does allow you to jack up you main volume quite a ways before the neighbors call the police. A cranked Bassman is really a different amp than a non-cranked Bassman. I did have to replace the rheostat once. The headphone/recording out was a dud IMHO, so don't buy it for that feature alone.

Beat me to it! I've also had good results slaving with a HP.

You're right, it is! The Fryette Power Station is a passive attenuator/active re-amplification device. The Rivera Rock Crusher is a passive attenuator only device. Not everyone wants to re-amplify the attenuated output signal... For those who do not, the Rivera Rock Crusher is (IMO) the best attenuator only device on the market. ;)

Thanks for the input guys. I traded a pedal for the Hotplate today. I'll check it out when I get home from work and see how well it works with my rigs.
