Why do you go out of your way to prove everybody else right about you?
Of the people in this discussion, the 2 for altering a constitutional amendment, when pressed for how they think it would REALISTICALLY change anything, have given examples of "preventing a person from climbing a barbed wire fence with a shotgun" and "keep children from running around with guns".
And I'm the one void of critical thought? Riiiggghhht..
But if you want to admit that you have zero clue about what the hell you're talking about and have just based your opinions on emotional reaction, then maybe we can all "fuck off' and move on.

I'll take a shot at answering...
The original proposal was people should receive proficiency training before being allowed to own a firearm which in turn would reduce the number of "crazy people" with guns.
I speculate this would actually make things worse. First, there would be no realistic way to vet a person's mental stability during a training course. In that capacity nothing would change. What possibly may happen is you would train "the crazies" on how to use a firearm. This in turn has a likelihood of making them more effected when they go on a killing spree.
This is just me speculating, but it's more realistic than the arguments of preventing jumping barbed wire fences and children running with guns.

Correct. Evaluation of a person's mental stability in this scenario could be very subjective which would lead to unconstitutional solutions. That is why the wording on form 4473 pertaining to mental health says adjudicated. Meaning the decision was by a judge and through a legal process. This is also why Red Flag laws are very dangerous and unconstitutional. Should there be a faster reacting system? I don't know. How many times have you read about the shooter that was known to have mental issues, yet family members didn't say anything and even left firearms accessible?
Furthermore, the percentage of violent crimes involving firearms and the mentally unstable is far smaller than the criminal element using them. They just get the press because it helps push the propaganda for the agenda.
