Because Pete Crow-Armstrong is ready to upset the 2026 NL MVP race and steal the NL MVP hardware from right under Ohtanis feet...... He is already surpassing his projections and exceeding them.... And brings more value than Ohtani as a pitcher and batter combined as good and exciting as Sho is and always is.....
Pete is taking it to another level and setting the tone for the most amazing defensive player that has played in modern times with power and speed......
At this pace he will have a solid 1.5+ to 2+ fWAR with a projected 9.6+ to 10+ fWAR given his pace over Ohtanis projected sub 8 fWAR as a batter+pitcher at the end of the season...... And isn't that something and IMO given this pace he has the NL MVP in the bag..... And nobody knows it yet not even Crow-Armstrong
A man capable of not just hitting with a solid swing finding holes or sending it out of the park which always matters but of simply pretty much defying the laws of physics with his out of this world defense....... challenging even the most amazing legends to have played the game with that alone......
At the game at BP....... Got to get a close picture of Luis Medina and pitcher for the Athletics......
What a cool guy, talking to kids and HS Players giving them tips and taking his time to sign all their stuff too setting an example, making their day and inspiring the next generation. What a champ *_*
Yeah...... At least the Angels did right by firing Minasian.
I mean dude constructs the team not the Team Manager. The GM at the top does that..... And well Cohen and his clowns at the top do that in the Mets.... Can't exactly fire themselves right and especially the owner can't so where does that leave these useless fuckers and asshats.
They have money...... But as we can see they are pretty stupid in how they use and spend it as with the Soto contract and getting Bo Bichette and other desk jockey, wanna be Wolf of Wall Street crap but with Baseball. They got Soto from the Yankees because they could and out of petty spite..... Where did that get them and Soto ain't no MVP, has ever gotten one or ever will and all the money spent on him could have been spent in other places with a higher overall ROI......
Like Cashman and the Yankees did, I have to say I do hate the Yankees..... But that ain't a bad product on the field and if I were to construct a team with the resources I had I probably would have done it much like Cashman and the Yankees. Its just such a damn good team with so much depth too. Hell we may have a Dodgers vs Yankees World Series again and round 2 to settle things once and for all.
This says a lot..... I mean Seattle for example no matter how good that rotation may be..... The only team that is worse than them in DEF are the Angels and Mariners are 29th out of 30 teams and negative..... The Seattle Mariners are negative in DRS and number 21st there out of 30 teams and 30th out 30 teams in OAA and as said 29th in overall Defense.....
The only team in the AL West with a positive Defense are the Rangers but the Astros while negative are only about 3 points behind with overall Defense so it may be a race between the Astros and Rangers for the AL West..... But the Rangers have better Team ERA and Team OPS than the Astros so...... seems to be the Rangers division to take as a top 2 or top 3 seed in the AL given this
Fucking Cubs have the absolute best Defense, Red Sox have a great defense but unfortunately no power..... LAD, SDP and ARI also are in the same area code defense wise and bunched up...... Interesting stuff....
And well Im not saying the Astros can't take the division in the AL West but given the metrics here the Rangers stand a better chance of doing so and a better chance at Wild Card too given the Mariners Defense here.....
Between the Astros and Mariners right now for a Wild Card spot...... I feel better about the Astros and I expect the Mariners to collapse if not lose the lead and keep it lost....
Also for me the thing with the Mariners here for example is take a look at the Tigers, they have a better Team ERA for the month..... And a better Team OPS and yeah look at the Tigers..... Below .500....and while the Tigers defense isn't as bad as the Mariners it's still pretty damn bad relative to others in their division and even MLB and in the deep negative...... Relative to the AL in general here and their own division in the AL West.....
Can we expect the Mariners to keep the top spot in the AL West nvm even take a Wild Card Spot in the AL when the season is over.......
Given how they have no offense and no defense....
Could be possible as they have the best Team ERA in their division and the AL West...... But overall they are not as balanced relative to the Rangers or Astros in their own division so...... Yeah
Pete is currently only behind Bobby Witt Jr in overall Defense and OAA, number 1 in FRV and 6th in overall DRS..... Only behind Bellinger in rPM too......
Making him one of the best all rounded defensive players to play the game in modern times and along with a solid bat 2026 NL MVP Material......
Also IMO fWAR isn't capturing the real value of OAA and DRS.....
Overnight pretty much Shohei passed Crow Armstrong in fWAR mainly because it values FIP more and overall Offense but IMO it's missing and undervaluing the defense a player like Pete or say Bobby Witt Jr play.
As a result Sho now has around 1+ fWAR than Pete over night pretty much...... But given Pete's consistency and overall value defensively I still believe he can take the NL MVP. Also if fWAR or fangraphs were to equal a defensive metric like OAA or DRS and other defensive metrics in a 1:1 to offensive metrics like RBI and HR Pete would be miles ahead of Ohtani...... An OAA or DRS is essentially like a HR or RBI from that perspective as one is positive in runs and the other is negative taking away from the opposing team.
There is just something IMO the formulas and fWAR are overlooking and undervaluing and overvaluing other aspects.....
It's hard to say but for me given Pete Crow Armstrong is just bringing more value overall given this my vote would go to Pete Crow-Armstrong simply for his elite level defense that one can say is even better than Bobby Witt Jrs in some aspects nvm he is also tied with Shohei in number of HRs...... Pete Brings more value IMO.
Also on those days Sho pitches and hits he may get a boost from fWAR on the mound and hitting behind the plate but overall...... I say Pete is probably more likely to take it in the end with consistent play, consistent batting and consistent defense.
Shos overall K/9 is lower than his career average and at some point he's going to play in a higher BABIP field where his teams defense will be eroded..... At some point players will get smart to his pitching too..... And there will be a ceiling on his pitching as a result. I say Petes going to take it.
Another thing with fWAR that is undervaluing OAA and DRS and defensive metrics in general is that they don't even take into context when an OAA or DRS was made with Runners in Scoring Position.....
The value only gets translated in WPA or win probability added.....
For example an OAA is roughly minus one run for the other team which is the same value as one run for the opposing team if the out had not been made......
Right now Fangraphs and fWAR fail to capture that value because they see an OAA or a DRS with Runners in Scoring Position as the same as without RISP..... This completely loses to capture the real value of OAA or DRA with RISP.
For example if no one is on base and an OAA is made that is -1 run or as said the same as 1 run in value an opposing team would have made..... If an OAA with 2 Runners in scoring Position is made that is the same value as 2.5-3 runs as that is how many runs was prevented.
So given this IMO it's important to understand this and value the defense as an OAA or a DSR at the same level as an RBI or HR or more so one can say when you have an OAA or DSR with RISP as per the example mentioned earlier but since Fangraphs and fWAR fail to distinguish an OAA/DSR with RISP and treat it the same as an OAA/DSR with no RISP it fails to capture the real value these defensive plays bring to the player.
Essentially the formulas and maths fWAR is using fails to capture the Real World Impact of such defensive plays with RISP on OAA/DSR plays and the Real World Impact they make simply aren't being acknowledged by Fangraphs/fWAR and their formulas/maths.
