I have to disagree on some of these MVP picks and in general I believe the NL race is tighter than many think and its not Ohtanis to take outright if Pete Crow-Armstrong has anything to say about it plus I get Alvarez is kicking ass and the Astros look to make Postseason now with him than without him but MVP doesn't mean most valuable player on a playoff/winning team and this is why Bobby Witt Jr deserves the award......
Based on the value as a player to his team in strength and offense per the rules of the MVP AL/NL Award since 1931 nvm the umbrella rule governing everything else for the award "The MVP need not come from a division winner or other playoff qualifier."
Let's go over the stipulations if Joel Sherman has forgotten which I imagine he hasn't or isn't familiar with which I can't imagine he ain't...... So what the hell is Sherman talking about here
MVP AL/NL Award Guidelines/Rules since 1931....... They haven't changed then and they haven't changed now..... Notice Rule 1 and the overall umbrella rule ..... So again what the hell is Joel Sherman talking about and why is he twisting reality in favor of his own bias and IMO East Coast BS and outdated arguments/shenanigans
Dear Voter:
There is no clear-cut definition of what Most Valuable means. It is up to the individual voter to decide who was the Most Valuable Player in each league to his team. The MVP need not come from a division winner or other playoff qualifier.
The rules of the voting remain the same as they were written on the first ballot in 1931:
1. Actual value of a player to his team, that is, strength of offense and defense.
2. Number of games played.
3. General character, disposition, loyalty and effort.
4. Former winners are eligible.
5. Members of the committee may vote for more than one member of a team.
