"legendary Wolfgang Van Halen" - :hys:

Nothing against the kid, but that is quite possibly the most atrocious misuse of the word legendary in recorded history...

Steve

Not for nothing and nothing against him, but he's got a long fuckin way to go before anyone should call him legendary. His dad is a rock icon, the band he plays in is legendary, and even his mom is more famous than he is.

Were it me I'd be embarrassed to have that on an ad for a record I played on. No way.

This.

corrected: "Featuring half-man, half-god Wolfgang Van Halen"

Entirely likely WVH didn't know the credit was going to read that way; wouldn't be surprised if it made him cringe, as well.

I'm pretty sure he's dealt with enough grief just being Ed's kid (and replacing Mike in VH); doubt he's looking to bring more rnegative attention to himself.

I'm not a huge Tremonti fan but the first single's pretty dang good.

These lyrics are incredibly bad. Its like if the Onion wrote a church metal song.

Haha! That's perfect. I'm also so sick of the modern rock/ metal production; especially replaced snare drum. Can't people learn to mike the snare right?

I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't even real drums tracked. Tremonti could have recorded this all himself because there might not really be a budget for him to record a solo record nowadays.

The kick drum was so overpowering and had zero dynamics so I can almost guarantee the whole kit is sampled. You don't even need to be able to tune drums anymore. I am so anti samples now it is crazy. I can see mixing in a bit of sample here or there on the toms or snare but 100% sampled everything has "modern production" and fatigues my ear. I listen to great natural drums like Seasons in the Abyss or Tom Sawyer where I can actually hear the acoustic ring and thump of a tom. I refuse to jump on the EZ drummer train and whenever I try out the samples I hate them. Stick out like a sore thumb. Big label bands need to record more like they used to. Say no to over production and perfect samples. No I say!

Look here, you can hear the kick drum actually be struck with different levels of power when he does a quick double vs perfect linear strikes that you hear in today's modern production. Love the air and depth these drums have. You will never hear that anymore now.

or here, you can actually hear the snare being struck with different velocity , yet the whole thing sounds wimpy by today's comparison because bigger is better I guess! (NOT):

and let's not forget this! The king.

That to me is a representation of a real instrument.

I actually like the album. And I'm sure some record label guy did the ad copy thinking himself to be clever.

All my bands do real everything nowadays but Im lucky enough to be calling the shots and recording with friends. I've seen records come out on Sumerian where the producer said "I'll record you but Im not setting up drums." So the drums were just programmed and that was that. Seems like it would be incredibly shitty to be the drummer in that situation.

I think the record is great. I am not sure if I like it as much as the first one or not. Far better than most stuff that is out there today. I don't understand all the hate in this thread. You have a guy who is always writing and playing and constantly working on getting better as a player. He steps up and now and begins singing in his band in addition to being in two fantastic bands. He tours his ass off and is a great all around musician. Good riffs, guitar solos, chops for days...I don't get the hate. I would be interested to see how the haters records line up with his but maybe that is asking too much??? My $.02

Not that I think you are calling me out specifically, but, I'm going to reply anyway. This may be a case of an individual being worth more than the sum of the parts... I gave no disrespect to Mark Tremonti, his guitar playing, his singing or his drive to create music other than to say the song in the video link was poop. I stand firmly by my assessment that it is poop and I believe that it is poop because I don't like it. Call it hate, call it my opinion, call it my right. I think that the sum of the guitar playing, singing and drive to create music has lead to the creation of a piece of poop. I don't like the riffs, I don't like the solo, I don't like the drums, I don't like the vocals and the lyrics make the song totally unlistenable. Tell me what you don't understand about that and why I need to put out a record to compare against something I don't like? Keep in mind this was not an indictment of Mark Tremonti, it was an indictment of the product he produced. I feel the same way about Apple, I respect the company but I don't like the product, should I have to create my own smartphone to see how my efforts compare? Or can I just admit publicly that I think something is poop and go buy the product of a competitor that I like more?

I guess you gotta blame Misha for showing them the business model lol.

To be honest, I'd much rather hear Toon Track drums then this de-tuned snare, nothing but attack kick, nonsense that is so prevalent in the bro-metal/mall-metal genre (volbeat, five finger, breaking benjamin, ect.)

Elvis is usually good at tracking drums though, he's been involved with a lot of amazing records: Core (STP), Make Yourself & Morning View, Fortress (new alter bridge).

So that is what this canned sound is called. Sounds like app-metal. Rattlingly awful, I cringe. The lyrics! :aww:
