i am not currently gassing for one, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't use one. if it helps me make music, it is good. if it gets in the way, it isn't. i am not against tube, solid state, axe, laptops running software, etc... technologies, from both yesteryear and today, are great.

I nominate this for "POST OF THE DAY"...nicely said, sir:

That said, there are some dopey generalizations and rationale for not wanting. Wow.

Totally agree Dave. For a guitarist that plays soley at home (which is probably a very high percentage of us here on the board) how could you not want one of these. It could save a lot of marriages. I think the Eleven Rack sounds cool too. I could be happy with either but would pick the Axe-FX over the Eleven if I had a choice.

Well I can only say why I bought one and what it does for me. I didn't buy it because of hype. I play in a cover band covering all styles of music. My main rig is a four channel tube amp and I use all four channels (lots of different styles.)

A few months ago I ran into a situation where I needed to gig regularly, covering the same amount of material, with a very portable rig and *no* stage volume. Since I decided I couldn't insult my tube amps by plugging them into a cab sim (something like a Palmer), I started looking around. I played the awful Line6 stuff, computer based sims like Amplitube 2 and Guitar Rig, all to be disappointed by the flexibility, options, and most of all the tone.

I now have a 4-space rack that I can carry with one hand that's unbelievably versatile and it sounds really great. I can hear subtle differences between the Axe and my amps (outside of the blowing pants) standing right there. I can also certainly feel the difference between playing one of my amps and playing the AxeFx. However, if I played a tube amp mic'ed through a PA and played the AxeFx mic'ed through the PA, good luck hearing the difference. You'd probably say the Axe sounded better if you were blindfolded.

If I could take anything I wanted to a gig, it would be one of my tube amps, hands down. That however doesn't take away from what an awesome piece of gear the AxeFx is. I love mine and it sounds phenomenal.

Had two and sold them both. I rarely play a gig where the amp is mic'ed so I didn't really get into the whole FR thang. Good piece of kit but not for me.

I never had, and probably never will. I'm pretty happy with my gear, and I'm focusing on writing songs.

I'd like to try one, but the Tonelab LE that I have is dialed in how I like it and it feels good enough when playing it to keep me from wanting to drop that kind of money on another modeler.

I'd like to see it in a floorboard type design one day (like the Tonelab LE). It's more practical to gig with for me...a simple grab and go all in one floorboard thingy.

do you have any clips or vids of that vox rig randy?

Whoops 'xcuse me.......I thought this was the I love the fuck out of my Axe-Fx thread....

Let me close the door so you can continue on with the anti-pining session...

I have no money for an AXEFX, does that count? But seriously, I rarely use the clean ch on my 2 ch amp. I pretty much go with one sound. That not to say I wouldnt use the all the gazillion sounds from the Axe if I had one :D

I'll get to a point where I'm not gassing for one and then Mark will post his "Bark at the Moon" clip and then I want to sell pints of blood to get one.

I don't think I would be able to make the Axe-Fx do what I want to do. I think I would tweak until I went completely insane.

Owned an Ultra for about a year. It can sound great, but still doesn't have the feel of a tube amp. I found myself spending more time dialing it in and playing with levels, cab sims, speaker sims, mic sims, effects, etc.. Call me impatient, but I gave up. It also made me have to carry more gear. Rack, cabs, controller....Ugh!

I have no gas for one and I don't miss it at all...

I have no GAS at all really and certainly none for an AxeFX. I'm a 1x12 combo tube amp kind of guy. I doubt that an AxeFX would see much use here with the Mesa Mark V and Fuchs ODS-50 combos on the floor in my home studio. These amps sound fantastic and record wonderfully at any volume and between them offer plenty of versatility.

I am interested in demoing an AxeFX at some point as I have heard some pretty impressive recordings made using them. I'm not opposed to deep editing hardware for a desired result but I'm not in love with the idea either (free time is harder than ever to come by these days - I'd rather spend that time playing). In the same breath I'm a tech type and occasionally enjoy activities like exploring the seemingly vast potential offered in the AxeFX. That's a different hobby though. Merge it with music and suddenly I'd rather be playing, writing, sequencing, recording, mixing, etc.

I also have interest in modeling and I love to see advancements being made here. I have demo'd many of the available modelers and, though most end up illustrating just how far they have to go still, it has been improving. There will most likely come a day when vacuum tube production will cease. I believe there will also come a day when modelling will close the gap and appeal to those of us who clearly prefer all tube guitar amps. For some it seems the AxeFX is just that. I'll have to reserve comment until I have had the opportunity to demo one thoroughly.

Meanwhile I'm very happy with my tube amps, thanks!

My Axe standard has probably saved me more money in shipping costs (flipping amps), than it cost me to buy.

I love my son's Spider Jam as well (best $400 gear purchase ever. Seriously great practice tool).

I also love whatever tube amps happen to be here at the moment (and they vary wildly) :D

I personally like it all :D

No Gas or even an interest for me on this piece of gear. ;)
Some clips of it sound good though.

Some day when you're done flipping amps like burgers you too will want an Axe-Fx my friend......

I don't have enough time to learn this thing. I feel this thing would consume endless days of tweaking and programming then I would get annoyed and go back to my tube amps. I DO love trolling the online classifieds and checking out all the cool gear people are unloading after buying an AXEFX.
