The older I get the more I appreciate the Stratocaster

From clean to mean, comfort and feel, looks... what a great guitar!

I like single coil tones for certain things, but for hard rock/metal give me humbuckers.

It's what I play about 80% of the time these days (S types at least...not all actual Fenders)...I love the dynamics of single coil pickups.

No argument here! I learned on Strats, specifically the ones with the old curved (7.25) radius. Lost count how many I owned since 1972, an astronomical number.

I have always been an S man form the minute I added a humbucker in the bridge and a floyd. The S shape body is just home to me. I'm not big on the fender 3 single coils but it is amazing that something from 54 is still awesome today.

having said that, all of my super strats have been sitting since I bought a Les Paul at the end of March :)

If we ever meet up again I would love to see what you think of my Strat with a Dimazio Tone Zone S in the bridge. Obviously not a single coil pickup but tonewise it walks a fine line between a hot single cool and a humbucker with some thickness that metalheads should like.

Yes. I realized this about fifteen years ago. It's all I have these days with various pickups. Stacked single coils. Single coils. Humbuckers. Rails.
Nothing else matters to me anymore.

I think I appreciate the Strat body design more than anything else. Comfy, light, easy to make, looks good in many different colors, with different pickup configurations, locking trems, etc.

Best thing about a strat: You can build your own.

With pickups from Suhr,Anderson, Etc.
Neck's from Warmoth
Bodies from Ebay.
Tuners from sperzel
Bridge from Wilkinson
Nut from Graphtech

For a few hundred you can build a very boss versatile guitar. All you need is a #1 & #2 Philips screwdriver. A couple Allen wrenches and a crescent wrench.

It's easily one of the best guitars ever made. I know many guys on here don't care for current Fenders, but it's important to note that the ones you demo at Guitar Center are beaten to death and in desperate need of a set-up and some TLC. They're very good guitars.

Perfectly concieved guitar was amazing for its time and yet nothing developed since or today else comes close IMHO, the shape just fits you/me and durability second to none. All I play anymore is some form of Strat or Superstrat, a Les Paul feels like I have a log tied around my neck, heavy, uncomfortable for me in many ways from lack of belly cut to my forearm hitting the edge of the top etc etc. Leo got it sooo right w/the Strat.

Strats rule. Comfortable and versatile they are.

I have an old mexican strat, beat to hell with a Hot Rails in the bridge, stock middle, and a DiMarzio YJM or HS2 in the neck(can't remember) with a 1M pot. Sounds fanfuckintastic for just about anything. Currently using it for drop D and drop C. Huge...

A strat is what I started on and just feels right to me. I have no issues with putting a humbucker in the bridge of a strat either. :)
