This is the first one I've heard that actually sounds good. But it's in a studio with lots of post. And a boost. Also what you're hearing is the camera's mic picking up what's coming out of the studio monitors...

I tried one out at the axe palace in walpole ma, the other day. Don't know how I feel about it.

Why test a high gain amp with an OD pedal in front?? And do these amps only do dropped tuning metal?

Ok..it's mic'd up, boosted, and going thru mic pres? And we are still only hearing the camera mic?
Let's see how much that signal chain will cost you...

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Sounds good. but it's going through a ridiculous signal chain.

Boost pedal tightens the amp up and changes the attack. It's that dude's sound for the music he plays. And yes, if you play standard tuning rock, blues, jazz, anything else through this amp, PRS will issue you a subpoena. Your ass will be the grass.

I own an Archon. I play in C# . It sounds awesome. Also sounds awesome with my 8 string. All amps sound different in person vs the internet...

I think I'm hearing more of the acoustic sound of his PRS and $10 strings than the amp itself....

Lousy clip in my estimation - no offence to the OP, if you're digging it.

Not only that - it's a camera mic recording of the studio monitors.

Have not heard anything yet that makes me think the Archon is not mud city. However, I have not heard a lot of clips and have never heard one in person so, who knows?

Man I am getting sick of people over analyzing this amp. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Guitar strings louder than an electric guitar amp

Terrible example of a demo.

Ive played it. it was Mud City.
Wow, I can't believe we're talking about the same amp if you thought the Archon was that muddy. I've heard stuff you like, and it's pretty close to my taste, so this is really surprising.

I haven't really loved any previous amp PRS has made (for the heavy stuff I play), but the Archon sounds really great. Lots of clarity in the high gain tones, at least the way I had it dialed in with my gear. Cleans are very nice as well.

I just picked up a PRS SE-30 head cause I wanted something brighter voiced than my Vengeance.
I'm really surprised at the high gain tone of the SE-30, it's pretty nice, definitely brighter in tone.
Sensitivity is really nice, and note clarity is very nice too.

The SE series is no longer made? The Archon looks just like my SE-30 in controls and layout, except the Archon is upside down.
Archon is a better set up imo, cause the SE has the chassis and tubes at the top of the amp, not good for heat.
Archon puts the chassis down and the tubes heat can go up.

SE and Archon have 2 channels, Lead and Clean, separate eq for each channel and bright switch for each, and reverb.
PRS says Archon as 6-12ax7 pre tubes. SE-30 also has 6. SE-30 has 2-5881/6l6 power tubes for 30 watt. Archon uses 4-6L6 for 100 or 50 watts.
I'm really surprised at how good the Lead channel is on the Se. It's got some really good gain.
Not METAL, but pretty darn good.

I need to get some vids on youtube for tone samples.
Tried to post an mp3 but it said my file was too big, and then when I shrunk it it said I've reached a maximum.
Help please. :)

Sounds good to me

Same here!!! Sounds pretty damn awesome to me. I also think the Misha clip sounds bad ass as well. These clips certainly arent helping my Archon GAS.

Ok let me fuel it a little more...

Here are three more quick clips I made today. Please read the descriptions so you know exactly what is going on.

I took a line out using a Suhr Iso Box. Then fed it into Logic so I could try some IRs.

These are basic clips and obviously need some post EQ and high pass/low pass filters.

I kept them raw on purpose.

They sound very close.
If I had to pick I'd pick the last one, but they all sounded very close.

That amps got some grunt. No, my SE-30 does NOT sound like that. :)
It's bright and doesn't have that heavy saturation.

I think the vid that Misha made wasn't to necessarily say that the sound of the clip he made was killer, except to say what they were hearing when recording it was. If he's (or anyone else for that matter) playing through an amp, and loves it, the clips often times don't translate. I've heard some really crappy clips of amps I love and vice versa. These clips on here all sound good to me - I'd like to try one out and see how it feels in person through a regular ol' Vintage 30 Loaded 4x12.

I've heard several PRS amps in person that sounded amazing...but most of those were not what I would buy...but they sound good for what they're made for (blues, rock, etc) - so maybe they've figured out how to make an amp specific to the heavy rock/metal genre. :dunno:

Fawk Yea  nice video man

I own this amp as well absolutely love it. Reminds me of a mix of Uber/Recto w a splash of marshall in it. Great mids!

We've used it recording our new album mixed w Herbert also have used it live a bunch of times. It's just that awesome!
