Good Day fellow riggers.....some photos of the fun stuff! The electric bill can get crazy..The Strats are (from left) 59 Fiesta Red, 56 sunburst, 54 sunburst.

You dudes should check out a band called "Beast in the Field". I believe they are from Michigan or Ohio, and are an instrumental 2-piece sludge act. The guitarist is a real gear head, and while most doom bands play loud and muddy, he actually has one of the most clear and beautiful doom tones I've ever heard. His rig is absolutely mind-boggling. I believe he ran a couple Ampeg V4s, a Green Amp (one of the best damn doom amps ever), and something else I can't seem to recall. He had a couple unnamed 4x15 cabinets alongside his 4x12s, and pushed a Tonebone Hot British into all this. I can't even describe how loud it was, but still sounded good, unlike many bands who seem to think that volume equals good tone.

I could be off a bit about some of the gear, it's been awhile since they came through. If they tour through your area, go and see them, not only as doom fans, but as gearheads.

You know what I was just thinking? Has or does anyone use Active EMG's for Doom metal?

I do. They don't do it 'bad' per say, but my fuzz pedal seems to react better to the passives.

I was using Seymour Duncan Blackouts in my guitars to play the sludge. I was also playing metal at the time, and now I don't. So, I am going to go back to passive pickups. I'm sick of batteries.

And my fuzzes do sound better on the passives.

There are EMGs in the guitar I just got. They sound ok, but I don't prefer them. Swapping them out for P94s soon. I did a sludge-y clip with a guitar with SD Blackouts a little while ok and it sounded pretty cool. I would choose those over EMGs if I was gonna use actives for doom

Its an LTD AL-600. Its an older sig model for Ahrue someone. Can't say I like the guitarist, but the guitar itself is awesome

Haha you are indeed correct. Its an awesome sounding pedal. So versatile. I guess the Torche and Kylsea and a few other bands are using them now

I'm about to go see Helmet, Saint Vitus, Crowbar, Kylesa, Red Fang, Howl, Keelhaul, Atlas Moth, Hellmouth, and Rue on Saturday.

Keelhaul and Rue are our Cleveland area natives. Check them out if you can. Rue did a song on the EYEHATEGOD tribute album, so there's a clue about them.

Damn I haven't heard the name Rue in such a long time. Where is the show at?

It's a sweet looking guitar, man. What are the inlays? LMK if you decie you don't like it ;)

On another note, I picked up a Swollen Pickle....AWESOME pedal! Getting ready to do a doom/grime band with my bud. I'm going to describe it as Northeastern Gloom...hells yeah.

OMFG. Single coil + Tubescreamer + vintage Big Muff PI = the best lead tone I've ever heard hands down. For some reason my Strat middle single sounds best right now even though I rarely use it otherwise. I can't even really play leads that well, but for some reason this is just like the best thing I've ever heard. It almost makes me sound like I can play leads! haha. I'd record a clip for all to hear, but my lead playing is a bit embarassing to say the least.

If I remember correctly, starting at 6:50 is a DS-1 into a vintage Muff.

The whole thing is worth watching if you've never seen it before. The intro is about 45 seconds of pre-recorded video that someone pasted in for some reason, followed by nearly 10 minutes of guitar solo over bass riffs.

They're spades. I'll keep you in mind, but I don't think its going anywhere any time soon :D

The Swollen Pickle is an awesome pedal. One of the few pieces of gear that I actually regret selling
