I think many rhythm guitarists are underrated. So are keyboards in metal bands that have them...

I still remember, probably in the mid to late '80s, when keyboard players weren't considered part of the band just bit players, but were on many songs live and in the studio. (Ozzy comes to mind, with Don Airey on the early albums IIRC)
True enough. I'm just not sure a thread about bass players is the place to address that.

Many musicians did amazing things without too much credit: Landau, Huff, Lukather, Izzy, Pino Palladino, Stuart Zender, Stu Hamm, Nathan East.

Robbie Krieger ? I would change that one to Ray Manzarek's left hand.
Well not for bass, for songwriting. And yes for Manzarek's left-hand playing live. For the albums, I've read that The Doors had session musicians playing the bass (to double Manzarek).

They did. Mostly Doug Lubahn.

Justin Chancellor
I'm glad you didn't say Justin Meldal Johnson. That cocksucker bought an amp ( SVT II Non Pro) out from under me at TB years ago after I had already made the deal. Seller decided to sell it to Mr. Famous dude instead. It took me 2 years to find another one. Then he was a smart ass about it. When I said something his response was something like " Like it's the only one in the world dude".

Fuck that guy.

John Myung gets absolutely no credit or recognition for his chops.

Tony Choy - under the radar.
