This stuff put a smile on my face when it was needed after a rather horrific day at work with some bad calls. Thanks for the warm welcome too. I'm thinking I won't be showing the guys at the fire hall any of those pics some of you posted....hahaha......that's just asking for trouble and I wouldn't really know how to explain that!
Mark! Did we play in the same bands brother? I did all those rooms and towns too.
Robbie Tustin!!??? Hahaha....now THERE is a guy who'd just love a man in short shorts as I recall!
I think I may still owe him some commission money!
Cheers!
It sure was different back then wasn't it ?

You are so right about how it was. I remember pulling up to a club on a Sunday night or Monday to load in the huge PA's and light rigs we used to haul around in a 5 ton truck, we were always greeted by folks that couldn't wait for the show...even if it was the next night..lol. The crowds lined up on a Monday night...WOW!!!
The sad truth today about a PA and light rig that fits in the trunk of a compact and you're still told that it's too loud and what do you guys need all that gear for??
I have to admit we never did that size PA...lol, we still carry around something that shakes the room
It is a sad state of affairs that DJ's draw bigger crowds and get paid more than a live band. Like you say bands are now playing for $300 a night and performing for 15 people that don't care.
Brad and I saw Steel Panther a few weeks back at the HOB in Hollywood. Man did that bring back memories, LOUD, entertaining band with a full house on a Monday night. No one saying turn it down, the whole crowd was there to see the band, the band wasn't an annoyance while the "game" was on..lol.
To quote Brad "Man, it sure would be tough to be an ugly chick in this room tonight." The crowd was mostly "hot" girls.
Anyway being there on a Monday night, It kinda gave me hope that maybe live music could turn around again, sure put a smile on my face, regardless.
For anyone (you young dudes) that didn't experience the kind of rush playing in a band back in the 80's was ......well, I wish you could have been there, you would have loved it!
Good to have you here Mike, thanks for the memories. I'm sure Robbie would say it's ok about the commission, he made it up tenfold from the other bands.
