My Ceriatone Yeti arrived yesterday and I've had a couple of hours with it this arvo and last night.

As it's new and unfamiliar and with all the switches (2 gain knobs and master, era and two bright/boost switches - plus the 'pussy trimmer') it is definitely trickier to dial in that a normal basic amp. Once I looked at the manual for the Chupacabra and spent some time tweaking I got the sounds I was looking for...which was a clean, ACDC, Van Halen, Iron Maiden and some detuned metal tones.

Straight up, it's an awesome amp and I'm extremely happy with it.

Nik was fantastic to deal with and even did me a custom tolex job (dark purple with dark cream ends and gold piping - looks really cool and is very original). The amp arrived perfectly presented with tube retainers and the pussy trimmer (inside the Chupa) on the back of the Yeti which was very cool and handy.

The Jose master is a little harder to get used to as whilst the volume on all 3 'modes' (60s, 80s and 90s) is ultimately the same, the taper is WAY different. For example the 60s mode can be loud on 3 but the 90s mode needs 6 or 7 to get similarly loud. Get them all to 9 and they are about the same level. It's ultimately not a biggy as it's a single channel amp and you dial in your sound and off you go.

I found the clean is great. Hugely better than the JVM410h I test drove. Warmer, thicker, more chimey and way more dynamic (and the JVM was fingers in the ears loud). It's got great cleans and IMHO it's not inferior to my Soldano or Sherlock pre's cleans through my VHT 2150/2502 clone poweramp (I get some great cleans with this setup). I don't think it even sounded inferior to my Vox AC30 head I just sold either. Just a Marshally flavour without any mud or usual Marshally muffliness. It's got the best clean by a country mile compared to any proper high gain amp I've had or personally played through.

It also has much more gain than my mid 90s Dual Recto. Plus it's really tight with zero flab in the bottom end. It doesn't need a boost or a OD as it has plenty of gain...it's not a 'metal amp' but it can do metal no problems. Not modern, bottom heavy metal as it's a Marshall at heart but it does have a solid bottom end. It might sound thinner than expected down low compared to some modern metal amps with 6L6s but I found it great in this regard...and it's tight.

I'm running it through an Orange PPC212 CB with V30s which I thought wouldn't work but they sound great so I'm going to stick with this setup. It wasn't too middy (I like mids though) and it didn't have any annoying fizz or high end.

This amp whilst a single channel is the bargain new amp of the decade for me personally. It's the Marshall I always wanted but couldn't find. I've owned a hot rodded early 80s JCM800 100watter half stack, played extensively through a early 70s Plexi 100w half stack, test drove a JVM, a SLP reissue, a Metropoulos, owned a Mesa Recto half stack, a pretty decent rack setup and this amp kicks arse.

I did a quick A/B against my rack (used pedals for the rack as well) and the Yeti sounded awesome. It just roared like...a Yeti?

It cost me AUD$1300 delivered to my door...for this I get a hand made, PTP turret board, Jose hot rodded Marshall clone with Sozo's, 100w, big transformers, custom tolex, FX loop and it sounds like the monster it is.

If you were thinking about a Chupa or Yeti, they really are worth considering. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get clips up but I'll see what I can do (even if I got them, they may sound like complete crap with my camera). I'll take some static pics tomorrow anyway.

It's early days but me already loves my Yeti

  Sounds like a cool amp. Hard to beat that price for sure. Cool that he did some custom tolex for you. Would love to hear some proper clips, but probably not phone clips. Thats probably gonna raise more questions than it answers. No offense meant ;)

Sounds like a cool amp from the description. Looking forward to hearing some clips of it. $1000 for a 50 watt head. That's crazy. What does the pussy trimmer do?

To make it more interesting, which Cameron mod do you think this is jacked from?

The PT description is:

However, if you are a straight-to-amp player, we have installed a trimmer aptly named “PUSSY TRIMMER”. The amp is sent from our test bench with it at its maximum setting (out of circuit). If this background gain wash and tendency to feedback bothers you, you can turn down this control to reign in the amplifier‟s “gainiac” nature. The PUSSY TRIMMER is currently offered inside the amp (The 1M trim pot near V2 tube).

I think they built in the pussy trimmer for the weak and frail...  only kidding...it seems to drop the gain down and it does reign in the tendency to feedback but I'll see how it goes in weeks to come as to how I run it. It was great that it's now outside of the amp but I found that if I wasn't standing/sitting directly in front of the amp when the gain and volume were up, I didn't get much howling. If you are sitting in front, at volume...you need a gate.

How is it different than just turning down the gain?

 grats

Yeah, it's an awesome amp.

I'll try to get some clips, but it'll likely take a week until my wife and baby head out for a few hours and I can get a few tones down...I'm a sucky player so likely it will be complete disaster all round.

I think it is reminicent of FourT6and2's clips of his Chupa. It's alot darker as I tried his settings and needed another of the bright switches on or needed to really re-eq the amp. It is just so tweakable as the various controls can really alter the sound in major ways (more gain, more brightness, more/less volume...there are major changes going on). I've so far got some really great cleans (I've used a comp and trem w reverb via a HD500 and it sounded great), great bluesy tones with the mk 4.23 boost through to driven SLP and really gainy Marshall tones.

I've found that I can dime gain 1 and run the master fairly high with gain 2 on about a 1/3 in the 60s model get a great ACDC, SLP type tone even at low volume.

I really am stoked with this amp. I've had some cool gear (still do I guess) and this is just a kick arse rig. Surprisingly flexible and toneful regardless of the fact that it's a high gain amp.

I found my old 6262 (I know, it's a crap amp but it is kinda like a 5150 in tone - it was my first tube amp since starting playing again) and Dual Recto really flat, buzzy and hugely limiting compared to this amp and nothing has quite 'done it' for me like this amp in all my years of playing (the rack and 11R is still extremely cool though)...it just made me smile like I was a kid playing a cool amp for the very first time. I really am happy with it.

Congrats! Now I want a 100 watt Yeti to hang out with my Chupa 50. Seriously fantastic amps. Especially for the price.

Dudes!

Is there a possibility to get more clips from FourT6and2? And of course if Axe-Man could make a clip or three of his Yeti, would be really cool as well :-).

I'm in serious purgatory which one to get so this would be very helpful!

;-).

Yeah, I can maybe do another clip soon.

Greatly appreciated!

Won't be able to order one before September but still need to know how they compare hehe

Whole family has had gastro this past week so no clips or pics yet (today I'm just starting to feel normal again - man it was miserable) though the day before I went way down I took the Yeti to a studio and jammed with guy who has a Orange Thunderverb 200watter.

The Yeti sounded great and whilst it doesn't really do the modern scooped metal tone, it cut like a MF and absolutely rocked. Everything from blues to roarings high gain 80s metal and maybe a little further with some radical EQing and major volume.

I really enjoyed playing it and it just sounded awesome when really cranked. I also was only running a 212 vs a 4x12 with the Orange...man those amps go down to 30hz!

The Orange was more bottom heavy and more scooped but even at comparable volume I kinda struggled to hear the Orange against the Yeti...and I'd radically scooped the Yeti (mids on zero).

I'm starting to find my settings more quickly as it can take a few knob tweaks to get a tone but I really love the amp. Just need a custom headcase for it now to protect it!

Hi Axe-Man! I just got the Yeti 50 but cant play it for some weeks due to sickness.

would you mind share your settings for clean and for more lead/crunch tones ala The Darkness/Thin Lizzy?

I cant wait to try this beast and figure out my own settings but if you have some sweet settings then I would like to try them:)

thanks and have a good weekend!

Frank

I found myself turning the pussy trimmer down to a little under 1/2 on my Chupa, so I was able to get more usable gain from the 2 gain controls before I started getting too much feedback or oversaturation.

I want more clips and info on these amps. Can they do Alice in Chains...
