I have a Mesa Simul Sat sitting around doing nothing at the momment and I happen to think they are the best power amps out there...even though that isn't what they were intended for.

Mesa Mark series power section with the graphic = Awesome Power amp!

Most recently was running modded Randall MTS stuff with it, but I don't want to go there right now.

Seriously thinking of picking up another Marshall JMP-1, but thought I would throw it out to this crowd.

I am open to just about anything that can do quality thrashy tones. Would also like to have a pretty good clean sound as well, but that is not a requirement.

Thanks!

I used to have the Boogie Studio Preamp and used it with one of those amps, pretty nice...

Rocktron Voodu Valve, very flexible, sounds great, and not a lot of dough.

Engl 530? :)

Here's a small clip of mine, just using an Iphone as camera/mic.

Mesa Triaxis fits the criteria pretty well.

With the real GEQ on the Satellite, you've got to go for the Triaxis.

The Triaxis is amazing. Can be a motherfucker to program & get communicating with MIDI pedals/devices though if you dunno what you're doing.

Also, go check out the Bob Bradshaw CAE 3+SE preamp.

I will +3 on the Triaxis. Great unit. I seriously wish I still had mine. One of these days I will have to pick up another one.

I have a nice Mesa Studio Preamp I'd deal to you. With that power amp you'd be this --><-- close to Mk2c tones.

Would HV preamp pedals work for you?

I have a tweaked bogner xtc pedal called a garland bi metal black that kills.

This dude makes a HV 5150 or slo preamp pedal.

If clean channels are your thing then the kingsley squire is a perfect blackface preamp.

Effectrode has a few really nice choices but are hard to track down. ( would love to try the tube fuzz)

KDY Russian tweaked mesa red

Swell pedals (just out of business but still out there, I have a tweed style circuit I love)

I truly believe that the same way lunchbox amps caught on, true HV preamp pedals will eventually be everywhere. The advances in power supply design now allow true HV Circuits in pedal enclosures.

At around $300 typical cost a pedalboard can be made with far more sounds than a singular amp provides at similar price points. You can afford to get " new amps" far more frequently!

You can use different poweramps for different flavors etc.

So far I haven't seen much else I really like, there are a few more products that I haven't tried.

Then there is the russian rackmount stuff I have not tried.

Lots of great opinions in this thread.

I had completely forgotten about the Mak4.

Had a Makoplex and it was freakin killer. Also had a Dorado and I liked it a lot, but not as much as the Makoplex.

Only issue I have with the Mak4 is it is HUGE. The Simil Sat takes up 4 spaces too. That would be one big rack! :D

Seriously considering one of these.

Does anyone know if Andrew is building them now?

Those pedals are a very cool concept.

Need to learn more about them.
Thanks!

JMP-1. Had a triaxis for around 6 months or so. The high gain tones just weren't there for me. Cleans and leads were nice though.

I go back and forth on rack gear. My first attempt was with a Rocktron Voodu valve, which was cool, but a little overwhelming for a starter rack piece. Got rid of that and jumped into Mesa heads, Recto, Stiletto, Mark IV. Jumped ship from there and tried a ADA MP-1. Didn't keep that one very long, ditched it for a Rocktron Piranha. That was a cool unit, cool enough that I kept it three months and ditched it to go back to heads. Went back to the Mark IV head. I really like the mark series voicings but it just takes so much tweaking to get them to play nicely. Then I got rid of the Mark IV and picked up a Triaxis with a VHT 2/50/2. I really liked the Triaxis and the midi implementation of the unit, plus having a zillion presets at my fingertips (which for some reason, I pretty much EQ everything the same). It a great sounding unit and shares some characteristics of the Mark series amps. If you can get along with those, the Triaxis is a good bet.
