Thinking about trading my Modded Marshall JVM205h for a Splawn Nitro and 300.00 cash.. Good deal? Bad deal? Good tone bad tone? I play modern progressive metal.. like Pagans mind, evergrey, etc.. Any comments?

Funny, I was thinking of trying to trade my Bogner ecstasy 101b (that I recently had converted to 6L6's), and getting into a VH4... I played a used one at G.C. and I really, really dig it! Anyhoooo... I had a Nitro, it was really a great amp! BUT, I sold it to fund my CCV purchase

300 cash extra is pushing it imo, especially if it's an older one then trade straight up.

Is there a trade back clause if you dont like it? IF there is, then I guess you have nothing to lose but I agree with Tom, Screw the cash and make it a straight up trade

This is the amp in question.. But the guy wont back down on the 300.00 because shipping is involved.. These head are like 1950.00 new.. He said he would buy my head for 850.00 shipped and then I could buy his head for 1150.00 shipped.. that would actually put me out like 350 bucks with shipping.. So i dunno.. I have never played a Splawn so I don't know what to really expect.. I mean can I get crazy prog metal tones out of the thing? Like Pagans mind-Ever Grey etc...

Are you getting the Splawn & $300 for your JVM?? If so, go for it...i think u will really dig the Nitro!

If you are paying $300 i would try for an even steven.

I don't think a straight trade is fair for the other guy. Depends on the year of the Nitro I guess. I do think perhaps $300 is a little much. Maybe $200.

That's more like what I was thinking.. But really I think the more I listen to my 205, the more I just want to get a 410 jvm and mod it to sound like my 205.. I am handy with old soldering Iron after all. I did all the mods to my jvm and I can replicate them on the 410...

This works for me. I am not a fan of Splawns at all but I do LOVE the JVM. I think that the JVM is more versatile than the Nitro and that with a little work, the JVM will get you what you wanted out of the Nitro and then some. Its a shame that you cant play a Splawn to do an honest comparison

Here are the tones I am getting out of my Modded jvm.. Would the splawn sound better?

I love my Nitro and would recommend one in a heartbeat, but those are some pretty sick tones you are getting out of the JVM! I would hang on to it until you have the opportunity to check out a Splawn and then make the choice for yourself which one will suit your needs better.

it would be the best $300 you ever spent

...but I'd still offer him only $200 + JVM

A couple of things to keep in mind about the Nitro from a former owner....and I'll probably get flamed for some of this but that's ok.

They are a LOUD NMV amps, unless Scott's changed them from the first run. To get the goods you gotta crank it which was too much even at gig levels.

The Nitro won't compress as much as JVM...it's more of a cleaner gain...if that makes any sense.

As much as people like to say the QR and Nitro are versatile...they're not....no matter how much you tweak the tone doesn't change much, but they are sensative to pick selection.

Windsen did several vids that pretty accurately show the Nitro in action.

No flames from me, I pretty much agree being both an ex-quickrod and ex-nitro owner.

Also, the compression aspect of youtube clips actually made me like the Splawn's more on youtube than in the room. Made them sound jucier online than in real life, more dry in the room.
