Not a big fan of the V30 so I try break-in this stiff speaker, what you think? Is this typical V30 tonez?

I think this is the typical V30 edgy crunchsound - great to my ears!

I play Smoke on the Water a few times, followed by Stairway

YEAH! you have to play One after lay it down

Like a lot of people have said, and I found out myself, it takes a while for them to break in and find out how they really sound. I play LOUD every day (I don't have neighbors) but they seemed stiff, and I wasn't too sure, but after they broke in.. they are my favorite speaker. Nice playing and good tonez!

Not all Vintage 30's are created equal. I think the ones made for Mesa Boogie sound the best. They don't have the shrill treble when new.

Aren't Mesa V30's modeled after early V30's, or are they something all their own?

The first V30s were the Marshall labeled Vintages, made for the Jubilee in 87. Crispier sounding. Can only get them from Marshall. After the Jubilee they put them in the AV/BV cabs. Then Mesa had their own version, softer top end and more bottom. Both of these versions you can only purchase from Marshall or Mesa. This is from 87-90 I believe. Then the V30 that can be bought from Celestion was made available in 92? I think...so three versions for sure and some say another 2 more depending on the info source. Hellatone version and the Chinese version, which some say is different and others disagree.

I thought the video was going to show some kind of "trick" to actually breaking in speakers  ....so If I plug in and play (loud I assume) for 18 minutes then i'm good to go???

I once paid more money for a new speaker that I had to take time breaking in while it sounded like crap. Since then I've only bought beat up cabs with well-worn speakers at a fraction of the price, and put them in not-beat-up Bogner cabs.

Just sayin' :D
