When I bought my Ibanez, the guy was selling a couple of Suhrs as well. I played them all and came home with the RGT220A. The Suhrs were great playing guitars, but not an additional $1k great. I'd love to own one, but not for the prices that they are asking. I mean no disrespect to those with Suhr guitars.

I mean you played a couple of suhrs...then found an ibanez off the rack you liked so it's all good. If you really liked the suhrs you would have gone home and specced one out just for you.

I never really bought into the hype, but the Suhr I played was fucking incredible.

I prefer Ibanez over Suhr, but I'm a 100% Ibanez/metal kind of guy. :D

That is a hot guitar. I really need to try some more suhr's. The few i did play i really enjoyed but i have monkey hands and prefer the necks on the ibanez's way more. So far ive probably literally owned a dozen ibanez models and prefer the older Jems for tone and playability. I think its the "basswood" bodies with the maple necks. I like a dark tone mixed with the right amount of snap on the fretboard.
...then again ive recently been fond of the swamp ash bodies too..:/ Im torn.

Try to find a Suhr with either a Reb Beach neck or Even C extra slim.

you know what....

ibanez could have probably made this for me.

doh.

I don't see any reason to bash the guy or call him a retard for his personal opinion but I don't agree with it. I've only played one Suhr and it had the best neck I've ever felt, hand down.

Yeah, I played the same one as Alex and it was great. I still have a boner.

I would even begin to compare a Suhr to a Fender as far as build quality goes. You buy what you like, and who cares what others are doing.

Speaking of Clapton, doesn't John still ghost build his personal strats?

Maybe I'm as retarded as Eric Johnson, SRV, Malmsteen, Clapton etc etc but I wouldn't get caught touching a basswood guitar in public.

Well, call me crazy...because I've got a $3K basswood body/quilted maple top/maple neck Suhr Modern on order as we speak. Not to mention, Mr. Suhr himself considers this wood combonation to be his favorite. I always laugh when I see people spout off these preconceived notions about basswood not measuring up to other tone woods. While it might not be your favorite,...basswood is actually a fine tone wood. BTW, this will be the 3rd Suhr I've bought. All three are worth every penny to me. Finding gear for the first time in your life that actually completes you in every way possible (Tone, Playability, Appearance, Workmanship) : PRICELESS.

BTW, that video isn't even an accurate comparison: Fender with a maple board / lighter string gauge - Suhr with a rosewood board / heavier string gauge. Of course the Fender is going to come off sounding more "brighter" than the Suhr.

brighter = shittier anyway. not to hard to make a log sound bright. real hard to make a log sound great.

million dollar violins aren't bright. they are deep and resonant. oh just like the suhr. fuck bright.

suhrs aren't fenders.

read the interview with john. He built fenders in the custom shop for a while. He thinks that the traditional build directions are terribad and back asswards.

Not surprisingly leo fender felt the same way too.
