Not everyone here is a bedroom player and even so plenty of horrible bands have lots of gigs so that doesn't really function as unquestionable qualifier. Your original post implied he was Layne's clone. Since we haven't seen other videos of his awesome vocal chops we only have your video to go by. Did he do good for the usual bar person sitting in? Yes, pretty good. Was it Layne reincarnated, no. I haven't seen the new AIC guy so no comment there other than it's possible you occasionally fold your arms when watching others too.

Still, bunch of negativity. I’m pretty positive and encouraging when it comes to other players. It’s the same guitar playing, nit picky, judgy bullshit that some folks on this forum have been about for years. Not all guys, but the folded arms guys, which you are. And several here. All good. I should’ve said, hey, this kid is pretty good, but he still would’ve been criticized. “Yeah, he’s not that good.” It’s just negative bullshit from guitarists, which is typical.

Negativity, or reality? Most of the responses didn't share your take on his vocals. I don't bag on other people's guitar playing here, ever. It took me many years of bs to put together the group I have now so unless I know a guy I would never allow some random bar person to sit in. That could cost me a gig and I ain't having that.

I don’t think anyone is like “fuck that guy, he sounds like shit”. But you came in with a specific claim, and it was pretty unanimous that we didn’t agree.

Dude is doing a good effort to cover one of the greatest voices of a generation. If you had framed it like that, people would probably say “right on, nice stuff”. But now you’re getting mad because we aren’t lying to make you feel better.

The drummer is the one that offends me. Some weird turnarounds and stuff that were just out of place.

And you’re absolutely right, I am an “arms folded in the corner” guy. Same as I am seeing my heroes. What you have wrong is thinking it means I’m being judgey. I don’t need to get up in front, scream and spray a cheap Bud Light around the room to enjoy a performance.

this thread is exactly how fights about cover bands with me and my father would go lol. For reasons i never understood, he would try to get me into whatever shitty cover band he was into at the moment, knowing full well im not into cover bands and usually avoid bars that have them. When id finally go check them out just to get him to shut the fuck up, if i didnt jump up and down like the Beatles just landed in 64 or some shit, he would question what my problem was, then literally start screaming at the bar in a fit of rage what a loser i was for playing to 40 people at a vfw and not getting paid. it was fucking wild lol

I hear you dawg.... and you're not wrong.. but if THIS is the only thing they have to go off of, most people will put it against an incredible night of Layne's versus a tuesday. People build up legends... Would this pass at most gigs? Absolutely... I'd love to hear him in his comfort zone....but to say he sounds very similar is like anyone here putting up a video of their playing and saying "This guy is very similar to Paul Gilbert"... it's gonna get shit on regardless.


If that's the guy who sits in on a performance I did I'd be stoked... most of the time they're absolutely gaaahhhbage.
