Thoughts on Diezel VH4 + Mesa Boogie cab?

I have been using Quad Cortex and Helix for decades now, and i miss playing with a physical amp. I'm doing some research and having a rough time deciding what to buy. I want a both good clean tone and for mid/high gain tone. I love Tool and Adam Jones. He does use a vh4 and a mesa boogie, but also 2 other amps blended in, so i don't think i will get as majestic tone with the diezel alone, but whatever. Anyone who tried the vh4 + mesa boogie combination let me know what you think

VH4 through a Mesa OS cab is an amazing sound. That's a set up that I own. No you will not nail AJ's exact tone without some blending, but with just one amp the VH4 will get you about 75% there on channel 3 with the gain around 1 o'clock and the mids pushed a good bit. VH4 is the foundation of his tone.

Great news. Is there a huge difference between kt77 and el-34 tubes in the VH4?

Combination of VH4 and Mesa OS cab with V30s is a classic that works great. I have other cabs with different speakers but I always come back to the Mesa OS. I slightly prefer the EL34 in my diezel amps (VH4 and Herbert). KT77 tubes are great but I found them a little bit scooped and sterile in comparison with the EL34. But they also sound tighter.

I use the EL34 VH4 through a Boogie Rectifier 2x12 cab. You'll be very happy playing that amp, it just works if you like that kind of tone.

I thought Diezel cabs used Vintage 30s, like Mesa, and others (Engl)...or G12-K100 in their front loaded cabs?

seems like just about any modern high gain amp can be, or is, paired with V30s.

When I first got my VH4, I ran it through a Mesa OS, sounded great! I got a Diezel 412FK a little later, which is also a great cab, but I can't say that it's better, just different. I still run it through either or both.

I wouldn't say that EL34s are significantly different than KT77. They are slightly bigger sounding and tighter while the EL34s have slightly more mid forward. I find KT77s to be a good compromise between EL34s and 6L6s and actually prefer them for some amps.
