Who has one? I'm a strat fan, but also a PRS fan. Seems like the best of both worlds, but is a little pricey. Is it any better than a strat of equal $$$?

I can't get passed the 3x3 headstock on a strat. It's just wrong.

Just an opinion. i have two PRS's and love them, but that's one I wouldn't buy...

I'm kind of looking for a stratty Strat (all mine have Floyds and bridge humbuckers). I'd probably get the new Fender Stories Collection EJ '54 Strat "Virginia" before that. It will probably grow on me tho. 3x3 and birds on a Strat just look weird at first.

Yup... There is one at the local shop along with the Mayer PRS J-MOD head and cab. I just walk right by it...

Played one at a shop last year. I thought the build quality was too notch, just flawless. I wasn’t loving the neck, just wasn’t my thing. Seemed to have a little bit of a V shape and I’m not a huge fan of vintage radius necks. To me it didn’t feel like a Fender, it felt like a PRS. I don’t know why, couldn’t put my finger on it. Fenders feel more ....raw??? The silver sky felt more refined??? Could’ve just all been in my head, lol

Do you want something that feels k like a PRS or a Fender? Bottom line.

Also can't get past the 3x3 strat headstock either.

I'd say if you're familiar with, and into more vintage Strats, the Silver Sky might be right up your alley. If you're used to more modern guitars with bigger frets and a fretboard radius flatter than 7.25, you might not connect with the SS. That was my experience recently when I checked out a few of them at a local shop. They're extremely well made, sound fantastic and are really consistent between guitars. There's been so much hype over these, I was ready to add one to my collection, but I didn't connect with it at all. It was almost entirely the neck and fretboard. I'm really glad I tried one first. I've got newer Strats and a PRS Custom 24 Floyd that I like a lot better feel-wise than the SS.

The Virginia strat is very nice but super-EJ-quirky, way more so than his regular sig model. It plays fantastically though.

The SS is a vintage spec strat, put together super well, but with PRS cosmetic embellishments. It is a fantastic example of what it is, but if you don't dig the round radius and PRS-ification, look elsewhere.

I felt that the PRS still felt like a PRS and not a fender. I am more of a fender guy when it comes to Strats, I don't even gel with g&l.

I would love to try the Virginia.

I see a lot of nice value in my AVRI Fenders and the old Fender Strat 'plus' or Tele 'plus' but obviously personal spec is preference. But big value for the dollar in the 'plus' model USA Fenders.

If you want it to feel like a fender, buy a fender. If you want it to feel like a PRS buy the silver sky.

Don't get me wrong, the SS was a great feeling guitar, but I am a fender guy I guess.

The standard PRS headstock looks fine on these, IMO:

It's just the mod they did to the standard headstock shape that looks mega retarded on the SS, IMO.

Simple dots make any PRS look better.

That's the problem. I'm not sure
I have a Fender MIM Strat that I absolutely love. It's my favorite guitar in the world. The neck on it could not be any more perfect. But to be honest I've never really been crazy about any other strat I've played, at any price point. I think I just got one of those "special" ones. On the other hand I have a PRS Custom 22 that plays very nicely. It's nothing like the strat obviously, but I love it for what it is. I guess I just need to find a SS somewhere and try it.

I'd recommend checking out an EBMM Cutlass for an amazing Strat alternative

I understand the dilemma, I have the hardest time choosing a standard shaped Strat. I’ve had a few; mim, USA Fenders and YJM, but didn’t really like any of them. But I find myself still casually looking for a good strat. I would recommend playing one somehow before spending that much dough on the prs, unless you go used and then you can probably flip it for what you paid if you don’t like it.

Go partscaster and get a luthier to put it all together. It’ll be half the cost and you’ll get exactly what you want. Plus, it’ll be YOUR signature model, not someone else’s.

I just finished mine
