Any folks ever try this stuff?

Some of the Tonex presets like the purple marshall, deluxe, and the dumble/marshall mix sounds pretty nice:

but i don’t get if the Tonex “everything pack” includes those?

I just tried the ones they have in collections and they sounded pretty good but yeah I think you gotta email them to figure it out as the page doesn't list them all and some are excluded. Any idea of how long the deal is going for?

Not understanding whats missing in the small print here:

This is all I tried

Ok cool if that is the official list I'm a little bummed the high gain stuff (Jose) isnt included. Idk if you tried them yet but the purple plexi, rocket, and trainwreck stood out. This kinda looks like a lot of overdriven tones

I tried most with cab included and a few DIs. There are some good jmps and trainwreks on tonenet but you gotta do the digging. Overall though I think whatever is included will sound pretty decent.

LiveReadySound is good for high gain DIs

Hey Pat! AmpGuru makes some great higher gain profiles for the Tonex. They sit super well in my recording mixes. I think it is worth the cost. I included a YouTube video of a Dual Recto. This dude happens to love the heavier stuff but the overall pack is for about any kind of style. Check them out!

Aloha!

that sounds cool although i’m not as interested in purchasing higher gain bundles.
i have the 78/79 and 80/82 brown sound packs and some random friedman JEL/Steve Stevens, Diezel, and Bogner presets i got off tonenet that more than cover my heavy tastes.

this was the 78/79 volcano(?) preset tweaked and hitting my Peacemaker as a pedal platform and it regardless of how accurate it was to VH it sounded pretty happening to me for just a cool rock tone i can play chords or leads with:

Plus my rack rig has great rock tones between the synergy be-dlx and egnater ie4.

Tonex presets of authentic fender cleans, vox ac30, jtm marshalls and dumble stuff intrigue me because those are more elusive tones in my rack rig and typically for digital modeling devices, not to mention the cost and complexity of trying to obtain the real amps, the right speakers and the challenge of switching between those sounds in a multi amp rig.

if tonex can do those convincingly enough to my ear/touch, i may go the extra mile to try to integrate it into my rack rig using real tube power amps and speakers. i have zero interest in chasing power amp simulations and speakers IRs when i have the real deal and they are naturally infinitely better sounding to me!

Seems like everyone loves the Amalgam captures for the lower gain stuff.

Amen, it all comes down to whether its happening for you. Im still not feeling the love for the modellers.

4-5 Tones is all I need

a) Knopfler Cleans
b) SRV/Hendrix occasionally hit with a Rat for Rory Gallagher, and slap on some chorus at times
c) Boosted plexi 80s (SD-1 into a plexitone)
d) Metal with 8khz boosted and 700-800hz cut

I can get all that with my strat, pedals into a clean tube preamp, and some day I'll hook it all up to my Boogie 395 with a Creamback cab.....and maybe I'll get a Bogner red pedal at some point.

Man, I have been spending a lot of time lately comparing my Fractals and ToneX, and I think I am swinging team ToneX. There are just better natural dynamics that are closer to the tube amps I captured. It is much closer to being able to take my analog tube rig and put it in my pocket.

It seems like we are seeing a split between team modeling and team capturing lately, and I see that coming more and more as NAM is getting bigger.

Dont get me wrong, I think it "sounds" great. How could you not? All these Youtube clips sound amazing. For me though theres just something lacking when I play through them (which isnt that often to be honest).

And its the glut of options. I can't deal with it...haha

Oh, I agree, and something I have really been paying attention to. For example, the Fractal stuff always seems to have this overall smoothness to everything you cant get rid of. Like things blur together instead of having an immediate punchiness. However, the ToneX and NAM stuff doesnt do this, IMO. It is more punchy and immediate like the tube amps.

that being said i may be contemplating trading my fend/indo tele and some pedals for an axe II😁

I still have my Axe II and my FM3. They are great devices for many reasons. I keep my Axe II in my parallel rack mixer for stereo effects, and my FM3 with my computer mostly. They are both still awesome, I just find myself preferring my high gain chuga chuga amps on the ToneX.

That sounds so natural I can't believe that's the toneX hitting the front end of your Peacemaker! WOW! Looks like you were using the LOW input jack! Sounds great mentoneman! Impressive!:2thumbsup:

That sounds better than the UA Lion pedal you had.

Since I couldn't get the controller to load right since getting ToneX and I still can't get the ToneX to load without being logged in to my ToneX account which is total bullshit I kinda forgot about it..............it still sounded great just don't like the platform and how they tied it to something like a subscription like you never really own the product..........They can GTFO about that for all I am concerned...............When I find time I may try to re-load everything we'll see.

i remember when the axe II came out and thought it was a cut above the ultra which i had.
i intend to use it for fx primarily as well although i do remember the amp models not being that bad.

besides really digging the delays, verbs, and ease of routing, i really want to explore the looping features in it.

I bought mine new in 2013, so I have had it forever. These days I pretty much just use one preset in my parallel mixer.

It does have an extensive looper.

mahalo kind sir!

i tried the tonex in the return of the mark III like how i’m currently running my rack wdw dry signal but it didn’t sound as natural/authentic as it did in front of the Peacemaker. to me it was a way better fit for my tastes than when i was borrowing my friend’s IR-J pedal.

the Lion 68 has it’s own cool factor and is a bit easier out of the box to get fast useable amplike tones. maybe better suited used as a pedal platform amp in a DI pedalboard. I tried the strymon iridium briefly for that purpose but didn’t gel with it.

Standalone, the Lion doesn’t have nearly as much gain, only has basic ambient reverb and has more noise as you start to push the gain.

the other unconventional wild horse in the clip is this vintage mesa halfback cab (i’m running it fully closed in back)—-so cool in its own way. has a modern celestion bite but adds unique fullness to the single notes like a V30 with a fatter attack and less rasp/mid honk.

i was looking into standalone loopers after ditching my boss dd-500. it got me thinking about older used axe-fx IIs having line level looping for my rack plus so much more…

I think the pack will sound good then if you've already got it covered. I've been thinking about putting a the tonex into a boss line selector loop along with my usual amp preamp chain into my amps power section so I can switch between my amp's preamp vs tonex on the fly.

I heard that the line selector has a bit of tone coloring though so I'm considering some other options. EHX has a similar pedal that supposedly doesn't suck tone but I don't have any experience with either.

Maybe some people here have some thoughts
