I came home last night to my daughter apologizing and saying that she'd done something really bad. Apparently she'd bumped into one of my wife's home decorations and in the attempt to save that knocked my RG570 off of it's stand. She said there was a chip in it and I assured her that I was pretty sure the chip was already there and it wasn't a big deal. I looked at the guitar and, sure enough, it was the old chip just slightly chippier than before and I again assured her that it was fine. Then as I was setting it back in the stand I noticed something rough on the back of the neck and I flipped it over.

The neck is cracked across the locking nut bolts. :(

I'm fairly devastated. I know it's repairable, but that neck was perfect. I'm taking it in today to get the estimate and hopefully the good news that they can make it just like new or better. Mojo needed.

Good luck man!! The same thing happened to me w/my Ibanez usa custom  the cat knocked it off the stand; I almost cried! It ended up being superficial, but nonetheless it's still there. At least necks for those guitars are fairly easy to come by, if need be ;)

Thanks! If I had the dough, I'd just buy Ayrton's 550 and be done with it. Chalk it up to a learning experience. :D

I totally understand the cat problem. We have four and I really expected if something ever happened to a guitar, it would be one of their faults. Or the dogs. I really thought it was pretty well out of the way for a person to do it.

Alas, it's off to the repair shop.

I thought maple would survive most regular falls from a guitar stand unlike Mahoganey. At least that's the good thing about bolt-on's, just get another neck.

thats sux feel your pain ... i had mint model 6 little one bumped into chipped the point

mojo your way and good luck with the repair ...

Keep in mind that your daughter is more precious than your guitar.

Ha! No yelling or beating or anything, as far as she knows, it's fine. She'd have a meltdown if she knew the truth and would likely go try to buy me a new one. At the end of the day, it's just a hunk of wood. I don't lose my religion when stuff gets messed up, it's just stuff. Expensive stuff, but stuff.

That's why I keep my shit in the hardshell so this doesn't happen.

Definitely a bummer

Good luck getting it fixed. I'm surprised that the short drop caused it to crack.

Me too. Hope they can fix it for you though, that sucks.

If the fix isn't going to be good enough, used necks are all over the net.

Depending on the heel it may not be that simple. AANJ necks are fairly hard to come by.

Here we come, walking down the street
We get the funniest looks from everyone we meet.

Hey, hey, we're the monkees
And people say we monkey around,
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

Same here. There's only two places for my guitars, in my hands or in the case. It's a habit, even for a bathroom break it's in the case. My 3 guitars are all custom jobs and I'll go to pieces if any breaks.

I got 5 guitars, and none are worth over $500 used but I still keep em in the case.

bummer man! But things happen - I'd just see what a good repair guy says and take it from there. good luck!!!!!!!!

Good news! My guys at the shop tell me it's no big thing and once they get it back together it'll be stronger than before.

I just have to wait a couple of weeks for it. :aww:

Awesome dude! I remember a similar situation where a neck broke right at the headstock. Tech told me it broke because it was weak and glueing it would actually make it stronger than it was before. glad to hear it

if it makes you feel any better it can be fixed, i know for a fact that dimebag had his number one headstock break in half and didnt find out until right before a show. he played the entire set with a C clamp holding the headstock on. when he was explaining this story, he was just putting it on to do a gig at guitar center and the neck/guitar looked and sounded great

gibsons are also known for headstocks breaking at that same weak point. i have a charvel that does not have the common wood leuve (sp?) for neck reinforcement on angled headstocks.

i had a brand new ESP that the original neck was new wood, swelled up and caused a hump in the middle of the neck and also caused the paint on a small corner to chip off at the body, when ESP put the new neck on the chip was even worse.

shit happens when you own instruments, this are just out of your control sometimes. i can only imagine the look on your daughters face, im sure your guitar will be fine and make sure the little one does not see how you feel about it, it will make her feel worse :aww:
